Document - Historical Society Minutes - Meeting Minutes - 9/11/2012MEETING NOTES/MINUTES EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY TUESDAY September 11, 2012 3:30 p.m. – EAGAN ROOM Members present: Mary Ellen Voracek, Lori Tripp, Millie Gignac, Ted Ringberg, Kim Hazel, Martin DesLauriers, Kenny Ekblad and Communication Coordinator Joanna Foote. MEETING MINUTES & SECRETARY The minutes from July 10, 2012 were approved and accepted. JULY MEETING NOTES & DISCUSSION OF AUGUST TRIP TO FAIR Chair Mary Ellen Voracek gave a summary of the trip to the Dakota County Fair. One of the places the group visited was the library, which is managed by the Dakota County Historical Society. Communications Coordinator Foote discussed the garden area, the heirloom plants, the different planting varieties and the threshing demos. It was discussed for next year to visit the fair on a Wednesday or another day other than National Night Out. BOOK PROJECT UPDATE Communications Coordinator Foote updated the group on the book project, noting the author Daniel Hoisting should have Chapter 1 for review soon. Foote mentioned the interview with Virgil Mack should occur shortly. FALL OPEN HOUSES Communications Coordinator Foote noted the fall open houses are scheduled for Sunday, October 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Tuesday, October 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. The group discussed staffing and updating the trivia questions. Homework for October: think of more trivia questions and displays we have or displays we should have. LONE OAK DAYS Communications Coordinator Foote noted the Lone Oak Days at Holz Farm is scheduled for September 22 & 23. Per the July meeting, it was discussed that the Historical Society would place a display at Lone Oak Days. Foote will send an email regarding staffing the display. MEETING WITH DCHS STAFF Communications Coordinator Foote noted in previous meetings it was discussed to invite the Dakota County Historical Society to talk about potential partnership opportunities. Foote contacted Chad and Rebecca at DCHS indicating the Historical Society would like to discuss potential partnership opportunities for the two organizations and invited them to the October meeting. Foote noted Chad was glad she called and thought there are plenty of opportunities to be discussed. Either Chad or Rebecca or both of them, will plan to attend the October 2nd meeting at 3:30 p.m. Foote asked the group to think about questions or opportunities to discuss with DCHS. OTHER Communications Coordinator Foote noted Norma Wade had passed away and a message and photo was posted in the Star Tribute from the Historical Society. Bea Bloomquist had double bypass surgery and is in the hospital and should be moving to rehab shortly. Tom Hedges will be announcing his retirement. If the Historical Society would like a more formal project, such as a display or something along those lines, let Ms. Foote know. Maybe in November look at holding a work session to discuss further options. Ted Ringberg mentioned there is an opportunity to go behind the scenes at the State Archives. Ted has been working with the government records specialist to set up a date. Communications Coordinator Foote mentioned staff is looking at storage needs for the organization and has asked the Historical Society to put together what their needs for storage are. NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 2 at 3:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT Tripp made a motion to adjourn the History Committee meeting and Ringberg seconded the motion. All members voted and adjournment was at 5:25 p.m.
