TOWN HALL UPDATES Plaza/Sign Project, Landscaping & More Communications Coordinator Foote gave an update on the plaza sign and dedication ceremony. Memorial Oak Tree Plan Communications Coordinator Foote noted the Oak tree has been ordered and will be planted on Thursday, June 8 around 8:30 a.m. Foote will be taking photos and E-TV will be taping. Historical members are welcome to watch. Planting of landscape materials on the site and around the plaza will be done in the same week as the tree planting. Mary Ellen and Ron Voracek are generously donating several bleeding heart plants and they have purchased two galvanized washtubs and two milk cans to be planted and set near the front door. Plantings will also include hollyhocks, prairie flowers and grasses and plants appropriate to the 1914 era. Displays & June 11 Open House Prep Communications Coordinator Foote discussed the displays for the June 11 Open House. Reid noted the 1910 map is the best map to use for the display. He also provided three handouts about the early school districts that could also be handed out at the Open House. CONSIDER ADDITIONAL OPEN HOUSE, DEDICATIONS, EVENT PARTICIPATION, COMMUNITY REQUESTS AND “TOWNSHIP TALKS” TOPICS/DATES Foote noted the group should first discuss Open House dates for July and August keeping with the timeframes of 4-6 p.m. weekday and 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Sundays. The group decided on July 13, July 27, August 10, and August 24 from 4-6 p.m. for the Open Houses, and July 10 at 3:00 p.m. at Eagan Pointe Senior Living. The Eagan Art Festival has offered the Historical Society a spot at a community table to distribute items and talk to the public during its June 24-25 event. Members determined this would be a good option another year but this year is filling up quickly with events. Foote noted the Historical Society has been asked to give a 30-minute Eagan History story for kids and parents during the Puppet Wagon show on August 7 at 6:00 p.m. at the Wescott Library. She noted the Onion Song could be fun to include. EHS meetings are the first Tuesday of the month and Foote noted that many tend to fall on a holiday or holiday week. She suggested moving meetings to the second or third Tuesday of the month so fewer reschedulings would be needed. The group will discuss at the July 18 meeting. Voracek handed out a list of suggested “Township Talks”/Presentations which will be discussed at the July 18 meeting. Foote discussed the need for collection management and a need for assistance. All items will need to be organized and packed before a building remodeling project in 2018. City staff has already begun work to consolidate departmental files. Joe Reid and Lynae Geseke offered their assistance. NEXT HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 18, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. due to the July 4th holiday. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
