EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY
TUESDAY
July 18, 2017
3:40 p.m. – Second Floor Conference Room
Members present: Chair Mary Ellen Voracek, Ted Ringberg, Kern Hough, Joe Reid, Lynae Geseke, Pat
Geagen, Kim Hazel, Bernie Jansen, and Greg Oxley. Also present was Communication Coordinator
Joanna Foote.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes of the June 6, 2017 meeting were accepted without change.
Changing Meeting Dates
Communications Coordinator Foote noted the next meeting is scheduled for August 1 which is National
Night Out and suggested moving the meeting to August 15, as she will be on vacation the week of
August 7. Foote recommended changing the meeting dates to the second Tuesday of the month
beginning in September continuing to meet at 3:30 p.m. The group agreed and set the following
meeting dates: September 12, October 10, November 14, and December 12.
Foote noted the Historical Society agreed last month to participate in the Puppet Wagon at the Wescott
Library on August 7 at 6:00 p.m. Ted Ringberg, and Kern Hough agreed to do the 30-minute Eagan
History story for kids and parents.
TOWN HALL UPDATES
Plaza/Sign Dedication Recap
Mary Ellen Voracek provided a recap on the Plaza/Sign dedication.
Memorial Oak Tree Dedication Date & Sign Plan
Communications Coordinator Foote noted Eagan Kick Start Rotary club donated $800 for plantings and a
plaque at the Old Town Hall.
Foote noted Councilmember Hansen asked if the Club could hold one of their morning meetings at the
Town Hall. Foote will coordinate the meeting once the new signage is being installed. The sign will
acknowledge the donation and include the history of the Lone Oak tree.
Set September-October Open House Dates
Foote noted the next Open House is scheduled for August 10 from 4-6 p.m. Pat Geagan, Kim Hazel and
Ted Ringberg are available to be there. Pat Geagan, Kern Hough, and Joe Reid are available for the Open
House scheduled on August 24 from 4-6 p.m.
There is also an Open House scheduled for July 27 from 4-6 p.m. - Kern Hough, Pat Geagan, Ted
Ringberg and Greg Oxley are planning to be there.
The group also scheduled Sunday, September 17 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. for an Open House.
Town Hall Open Signage
Foote will print signs and display them for the scheduled Open Houses and put information on the
Marquee, on Social Media on the Website and as possible in City Newsletters.
Display Proposal
Communications Coordinator Foote noted there is about $42,000 to spend on displays or cabinetry. She
has been working with Skyline Displays who provided mock ups of displays for the group to view.
Foote noted a place is need to recognize donors and suggested maybe in the outdoor area out front of
Town Hall.
TOWNSHIP TALKS TOPICS/DATES
Possible topics – Ask the City Forester to talk about the meaning of trees in the area – native trees, the
moving of the Lone Oak Tree, Emerald Ash, etc.
The group decided to look at other Township Talks in the winter.
Joe Reid spoke about his early Eagan schools display. He created information sheets on school locations
and created a map. Foote noted she and Joe coordinated information for the City newsletter to ask
people for memories of their school days 1950 and before.
COLLECTION MANAGEMENT
Foote gave kudos to Lori Tripp and Lynae Geseke for their work in the basement organizing historical
items.
DCHS UPDATES & AFFILIATE NOTES
Greg Oxley provided the DCHS updates noting they are hiring new people to deal with the Sibley and
LaDuc sites. The LaDuc site will be under major renovations – paid for by the City of Hastings. And both
sites need people to attend their events and keep interest especially during the Civil War weekend.
Foote noted as a member of DCHS she receives information about their events, but if you are not a
member it is hard to find information about their events. She asked Oxley to email her when they have
events planned. Oxley will pass along the suggestion to the Director. Oxley will email information
regarding the 1916 baseball game planned in August.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for August 15, 2017 at 3:30 p.m.
