Document - Historical Society Minutes - Meeting Minutes - 4/30/2013 MEETING NOTES/MINUTES EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY TUESDAY April 30, 2013 3:30 p.m. – 2nd Floor Conference Room A/B Members present: Mary Ellen Voracek, Linda Bendt, Kenneth Ekblad, Kim Hazel, Bernie Jensen, Lori Tripp and Millie Gignac. Also present was Communication Coordinator Joanna Foote. MEETING MINUTES & SECRETARY The minutes from March 2, 2013 were approved and accepted with changes. The April Meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather HISTORICAL SOCIETY BUSINESS Further Discuss Shared May Event with Eagan Seniors On Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. the Eagan Seniors and Historical Society will host an event to celebrate the10th Anniversary of the Eagan Community Center. Cake, coffee and a program are being coordinated. Several members volunteered to assist with this event. Rivamonte (Eagan 55+/ Seniors) joined the committee to discuss the joint planning of the celebration and program with the seniors. She stated that the Women of Note will perform and lead into a birthday song when the cake is cut. Kay Brown will do a reading from her book, Aunt Gussie and the Grandfather Tree. Foote suggested she can create a photo board of Grandfather Tree Photos and news clippings. The committee watched the E-TV’s video about Grandfather Tree and its move and a portion of another video regarding the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Eagan Community Center, festival grounds, pavilion and band shell. Foote stated that they could condense the videos to fit their timing needed. They talked about set-up in the Oaks Room, also, equipment needs. Foote revisited some of the various ideas that the committee had talked about. Foote said she would try to contact Tom Eagan to see if he would be interested in dressing up as “Uncle E”. Set Dates for June Open House The spring Open Houses at the 1914 Town Hall will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:00p.m. and Sunday, June 23, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. June 4th meeting they will discuss maintenance and cleaning to be done. Discuss Memorial for Former Chair Wachter Foote stated that Ann Wachter Ted’s widow indicated an interest in having a tree planted I Ted’s honor. Foote will check sites for a tree and a plaque. Two possible sites that were suggested which included the Eagan Municipal Center or the 1914 Town Hall site. Other A discussion of the “Eagan Streets Alive/Showcase” event and why change has come about verses the “Eagan Showcase”. This event will be held Sunday, September 15, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Foote received a positive response to the possibilities of historic old time games; a square dance and lessons; milk truck providing samples, as well as other ideas were discussed. Foote will attend the next DCHS Board meeting and offer the possibility of partnering in the event. Ringberg donated war bond rations coupons that his niece had found. He also brought in copies of newspapers;1861 newspaper showing a telegram stating the declaration of the Civil War, 1865 newspaper telling of peace and victory and one from 1945 with the headline “How we smashed the Japanese Empire” Jensen shared the brochure of the DCHS Volunteers Breakfast that was the prior week and updated the committee of the progress of the DCHS/Sperry/Univac/Lockheed Martin display and work being done. NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT Jensen made a motion to adjourn the History Committee meeting and Hazel seconded the motion. All members voted and adjournment was at 5:20 p.m.
