Volunteers Open the 1914 Town Hall to Nice Crowd
At the June 12 inaugural reopening of the 1914 Town Hall following its reconstruction, the volunteer members of the
Eagan Historical Society members welcomed more than 300 visitors in a three-hour period. Visitors were excited to see
the results o of the nearly three-year project which restored the Town Hall to its 1914 color schemes, both inside and
out, has enhanced security, better lighting and climate control. Some visitors were seeing the Town Hall for the first time
and were very pleased that the City Council chose to save the building and its history. Several visitors told stories of
having been at Township meetings in the 1950s and 60s. Among this later group, a longtime resident was able to
identify herself among the audience members in a 1958 Town Board meeting photo on display. Three former Eagan
Mayor’s Pat Geagan (now a member of the Eagan Historical Society), Bea Blomquist (visiting from Phoenix) and County
Commissioner Tom Egan were also among the visitors.
“Its really where this community all began, right here in this little building,” says Ted Ringberg
A special 1914 Town Hall event is being planned for Thursday, September 8, to thank and recognize the Eagan City
Council for its preservation of the Town Hall, Eagan Police and Firefighters and donors who have contributed to the
rebuilding efforts. Invitations will be sent in July.
