Re: Independent School District #196
Oak Ridge Elementary 2017 Addition
Commission No: 152278
Dear Craig:
Thank-you for meeting with us, recently, on site at Oak Ridge Elementary, to review the door
actuator and card reader locations. Below is the requested operational description of how the
doors at the main entrance vestibule are currently setup.
Before and after the typical school day hours, both the exterior and interior sets of vestibule
doors are unlocked and open for public use. During typical school day hours, the exterior
vestibule door remains open for visitors, though the interior set of vestibule doors is locked. All
visitors are directed to proceed from the main entrance vestibule to the school office, where
they are checked-in with the receptionist.
The current layout has the door actuator for the interior vestibule doors placed on the adjacent
wall, while the card reader is mounted to the door frame. One of your initial concerns was that
the door actuator and card reader were too far apart from each other. Because the interior
vestibule doors remain locked during typical school day hours, the door actuator will not
activate a door. The door actuator is only functional before and after typical school day hours
when the interior vestibule doors are unlocked; with the doors unlocked, the card reader
would not be required for entry. Per our discussion on site, this clarification satisfied your
concerns, regarding the placements of the entry devices.
As for the relocation of the exterior door actuator, we are coordinating with the District and
our Construction Manager, Wenck Construction, to make the ne cessary corrections and will
provide updates as they become available. Please let us know if there are questions or other
concerns. Thank-you.
Sincerely,
