WORKSHOP MINUTES OF JULY 10, 2018
A workshop meeting of the Energy and Environment Advisory Commission (EEAC) began at 6:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, July 10, 2018 and concluded at 7:27 p.m. Commission Members present included Member Oxley,
Member Trzpuc, Member Dugan, Member Supina, Member Miller and Member Ziese. Members Mirick and
Fleenor were absent. Staff members present were Director of Parks & Recreation Andrew Pimental.
Topics covered included: Commission work plan and goal development for 2018 - 2019.
Staff brought up each of the 11 ideas that were identified as possible goals in the EEAC regular meeting on
Tuesday, June 12, 2018. The commission discussed each on an individual basis, and came up with the following
condensed list for future discussion and consideration for the regular meeting on Tuesday, August 14. The
following list is in no particular order:
• Incorporating higher MPG vehicles into City Fleet management and supporting infrastructure for EV
throughout the City.
• No waste in city operations/enhanced recycling and trash efforts across city
• Comprehensive energy planning and reduction of carbon emissions, create City energy goals and climate
action plan
• Continued educational platform, to highlight specific topics and opportunities for community, promote
past educational topics further, utilize this group to highlight work being done by others in community,
and continue outreach for additional volunteers for community benefit
The following goals were discussed with the following outcomes:
• Light pollution — instead of creating an entire goal for this, continue using the educational goal to spread
the word on light pollution.
• Plastics reduction — additional initial research needed, gain further exposure of the challenge and look at
as a strong, coordinated future goal.
Commission members will continue discussions on the work plan at the August regular meeting with the desire to
have a work plan to present to the City Council in October in their annual combined meeting with City Council.
