05/21/2018 - Advisory Parks & Recreation Commissioni 1 ► ► I i I EAGAN ESTABLISHED 1860 REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF THE ADVISORY PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION Monday, May 21, 2018 MEETING MINUTES OF MAY 21, 2018 A regular meeting of the Advisory Parks & Recreation Commission (APrC) began at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018. Commission Members present included Member Michael Palmer, Member Dorothy Peterson, Member Anita Pagey, Member Jerry Farlee, Member Aileen Hough, Member Nathan Neuman, Member Linda Klein and Member Molly Schuetzle. Staff members present Parks and Recreation Director Andrew Pimental and Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Jared Flewellen. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Member Palmer asked Director Pimental if there were any changes to the agenda. Director Pimental stated there were no changes. Member Klein moved, Member Hough seconded, with all members present voting to adopt the agenda as presented. Aye: 7 Nay: 0 APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES Member Peterson moved, Member Neuman seconded, with all present members voting in favor to approve the minutes of the April 16, 2018 workshop meeting, as presented. Aye: 7 Nay: 0 PRESENTATIONS Introduction of New Commissioners Director Pimental welcomed new Commissioner Anita Pagey to the commission with a brief introduction and background of her interests and relation to Eagan parks and recreation efforts. Election of Officers Advisory Parks & Recreation Commission May 21, 2018 Page 2 Assistant Director Flewellen called for nominations for the three commission positions: Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary. Member Farlee moved, Member Peterson seconded, with all present members voting in favor to approve Commissioner Palmer for the Chair position. Aye: 7 Nay: 0 Member Neuman moved, Member Schuetzle seconded, with all present members voting in favor to approve Commissioner Peterson for the Vice Chair position. Aye: 7 Nay: 0 Member Peterson moved, Member Hough seconded, with all present members voting in favor to approve Commissioner Klein for the Secretary position. Aye: 7 Nay: 0 OLD BUSINESS Arbor Day Festivities Assistant Director Flewellen recapped the Arbor Day festivities held at Bridle Ridge Park on May 16. Approximately 50 people attended this years event. The poster contest winner was announced and for the second year in a row, the third grade student at Rahn Elementary has won the poster contest. The student's name is Marina Gueorguiev. NEW BUSINESS Capital Improvement Projects Director Pimental presented initial discussion topics and ideas for the 2019 Capital Improvement Projects. Discussion also included the five year plan for future projects. Commission discussed site visits to better understand potential development sites and needs. STAFF REPORTS Department Highlights Director Pimental presented Department Highlights from recent activities in the Eagan Parks and Recreation Department. ROUNDTABLE Member Hough expressed her excitement for the public art project as well as encouraged other commissioners who are interested to attend future Reading Across Generations events. Advisory Parks & Recreation Commission May 21, 2018 Page 3 Member Peterson described her history with the commission and the City of Eagan. Member Klein thanked all who attended and volunteered at the Holz Farm Spring Festival. Member Palmer thanked outgoing commissioners for their service and commented on how well the Eagan Ice Show was coordinated. Member Neuman welcomed new Commissioner Pagey. Member Farlee welcomed new Commissioner Pagey and commented on the Eagan Skate Park construction. Member Schuetzle encouraged everyone to attend Memorial Day event and thanked city staff for coordinating Water Resource training. ADJOURNMENT With no further business to discuss, Member Klein moved, Member Hough seconded with all members present voting to adjourn the meeting.
