1 Provide lateral support to prevent rotation at end bearings and at interior bearings when
required by code for seismic design.
2 Dead Load Deflection:Instant=0.199",Long Term=0.299"
3 Fasten all plies using 3 rows of 12d Box nails(.128x3.25")at 12"o.c.Maximum end distance
not to exceed 6".Clinch Nails where possible.
4 Refer to last page of calculations for fasteners required for specified loads.
5 Concentrated load fastener specification is in addition to hanger fasteners if a hanger is
present.
6 Fill all hanger nailing holes.
7 Girders are designed to be supported on the bottom edge only.
8 Top loads must be supported equally by all plies.
9 Top must be laterally braced at a maximum of 2'o.c.
10 Bottom braced at bearings.

Subject: 4174 Summerbrooke Ln Plan Review
Attachments: 4174 Summerbrooke pl - Plan Review.pdf
Nathaniel,
Congrats on the newest addition!
To recap our phone conversation: upon review of the lot survey for 4174 Summerbrooke Ln,there are Twenty(20)
Black Hill Spruce are already installed along the north property line. Per the approved mitigation plan this lot is to have
nineteen (19)Category A trees(>=4.0"caliper deciduous trees,or>=12'conifer trees).Seventeen(17) Black Hills
Spruce and two(2)Autumn Blaze Maple. The proposed footprint of the building on the lot survey shows three(3) Black
hills spruce trees that are currently planted where critical root zones may be encroached upon during excavation. See
Attached. Critical root zone(CRZ)means an area within a radius surrounding the tree trunk of one foot per one
caliper inch of tree diameter,e.g., a 20-inch diameter tree has a CRZ with a radius of 20 feet. The trees installed are
currently about 3-5" in diameter, and recently planted, so to be on the safe side the CRZ would be about 5'. Given
the mature size of these trees being 15-25'wide it would be best if these trees were moved or removed.
So, in summary there are two options for this lot.
Option 1,These trees are relatively new they could be moved and remain on site. No additional trees would need to
be planted. Or Option 2, Remove the three trees and replant two (2) new, front yard,Autumn Blaze Maple trees.
Before I can approve your permit I need you to provide a tree preservation plan(can be drawn on a copy of the survey)
that visually represents which option you choose and clearly identifies trees to be removed or planted and also shows
the location of tree protection fencing. The tree protection fencing needs to be installed and inspected by me prior to
commencement of construction. The tree protection fence should be orange snow fence but poly silt fence is also
acceptable,it should be placed at the drip line or at the perimeter of the critical root zone(CRZ),whichever is greater, of
significant trees, specimen trees, and significant woodlands to be preserved. No grade change, construction activity,or
storage of materials shall occur within this fenced area.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
ipFt \

Project (SH#19480): Lateral
4174 Summerbrooke PI PV-Ai ' /59;,59-
Eagan, MN
Dear Nathaniel:
As you requested, I have reviewed the sheathing fastening for the new residence
located at 4174 Summerbrooke Place in Eagan, Minnesota. In place of the 8d Nails
called out for the fastening of the exterior sheathing in Wall "W1", 7/16" x 1 1/2"
16-guage crown staples at 3" on center along the edges and 6" on center at the
intermediate supports (minimum) may be used. This will provide the adequate
resistance for the lateral forces placed upon the structure. Also, the portal frame
walls on each side of the garage doors were designed as 12" in length, minimum.
The 2015 Minnesota State Residential Code is applicable. Please call me if you
have any questions concerning this project.
Sincerely,
Safe Haven Structural Engineering LLC

Project (SH# 19480): Framing Issues
4174 Summerbrooke PI
Eagan, MN
Dear Nathaniel:
As you requested, I have inspected the framing for the new residence located at 4174
Summerbrooke Place in Eagan, Minnesota. A site visit was conducted by Derek Phillips,
PE on February 13, 2020. A couple of items were brought up by the inspector.
The hold down straps at the garage portal frame were not installed that well. The straps are
not completely vertical and tipped to the side, missing part of the double vertical studs that it
was supposed to line up with behind. The framers added a partial vertical stud to the side of
the double studs to accommodate for this, so the strap had something to fasten to. Also, the
sheathing was broken 6" up from the bottom of the portal wall. Horizontal blocking was
added at this point. To fix this, add 2 layers of 1/2" sheathing to the inside face of the
portals walls. They should be installed from the base plate up to the double top plate. Tack
the first layer in place and then fasten the second layer over the top of it with 10d nails at 3"
on center, minimum. This should be fastened to every vertical stud in this area. If there is a
break in sheathing, make sure from one layer to the next that the breaks are at least 2'-0"
apart. This will take care of both issues.
No details were provided for internal shear wall installation. Please see the attached sheet.
The 2015 Minnesota State Residential Code is applicable. Please call me if you have any
questions concerning this project.

Project (SH# 19480): Framing Issues
4174 Summerbrooke PI 7Xit#4/f , /594Z.Q
Eagan, MN
Dear Nathaniel:
As you requested, I have inspected the framing for the new residence located at 4174
Summerbrooke Place in Eagan, Minnesota. A site visit was conducted by Derek Phillips,
PE on March 5, 2020. The following items were looked at:
• The fastening of the plywood to the inside face of the portal walls at the garage.
These are installed per my design. They do not need to go the full length of the
portal wall since they are not designed to help with shear but to assist with the
fastening of the hold-downs for overturning.
• The (3) 1 3/4"x 11 7/8" LVL in the garage designed by the truss manufacturer is
acceptable. This is in place of the girder truss called out on the structural drawings.
• Post P1, (2) 2x6, on the north side of the staircase holding up the end of Beam B5 is
installed as a (3) 2x4 Post. This is acceptable.
The 2015 Minnesota State Residential Code is applicable. Please call me if you have any
questions concerning this project.
