EAG N Driveway Replacement / Expansions
This handout is written only as a guide; it is not intended nor shall it be considered a complete set of requirements.
A Zoning Permit is required with all driveway replacements and expansions.
D Work is allowed in the public right-of-way(ROW) up to the back of the curb without a ROW permit.
D A ROW Permit IS required in addition to the Zoning Permit if work includes to removing I replacing existing curb
and gutter. This applies to situations where the resident desires the curb cut to be widened, where the existing
curb is not a surmountable design.
D Eagan City Code limits the width of a driveway to 22 feet within the ROW.
D The ROW typically extends 10 to 15 feet behind the curb into the property. Call the Engineering or Planning
Department for further guidance to help determine the size of ROW in front of your home.
D The driveway improvement should not significantly affect or change existing drainage patterns on your property or
cause negative impact to a neighboring property. You are not allowed to drain your runoff onto your neighbor's
property unless that is the intended path due to existing topography conditions.
D Some properties are located within a Shoreland
Overlay District and have a maximum impervious
surface amount allowed on their property which is
25% of the entire parcel. Any hardcover which does
not allow water to penetrate the soil is considered
