INTRODUCTORY/GATHERING RITES
We gather here in the church, the place where the community of Mary,
Mother of the Church assembles for worship, to commend one of our own
to the Father. We begin the funeral liturgy by blessing the body with holy
water, recalling baptism. A white pall is placed on the coffin recalling the
white garment received in the baptismal liturgy. The paschal candle, like
the candle received at baptism, symbolizes Christ's resurrection and
stands near the coffin.
Entrance Song
We Shall Rise Again
Jeremy Young
1. Come to me, all you weary, with your burdens and pain.
Take my yoke on your shoulders and learn from me;
I am gentle and humble, and your soul will find rest,
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Refrain: We shall rise again on the last day with the faithful
rich and poor.
Coming to the house of Lord Jesus, we will find an
open door there,
we will find an open door.
2. Do not fear death's dominion, look beyond earth and grave.
See the brightness of Jesus shining out to light our way.
Loving Father and Spirit, loving Jesus the Son,
All God's people together, we shall live on as one!
3. At the door there to greet us, martyrs, angels and saints,
And our fam'ly and loved ones, ev'ryone freed from their chains.
We shall feel their acceptance, and the joy of new life.
We shall join in the gathering, reunited in God's love!

Presentation Song You Are Mine
I will come to you in the silence,
I will lift you from all your fear.
You will hear my voice, I claim you as my choice,
Be still and know I am here.
I am hope for all who are hopeless,
I am eyes for all who long to see,
In the shadows of the night,
Iwill be your light,
Come and rest in me.
Refrain:
Do not be afraid, I am with you.
I have called you each by name.
Come and follow me,
I will bring you home;
I love you and you are mine.
I am strength for all the despairing,
Healing for the ones who dwell in shame.
All the blind will see, the lame will all run free,
And all will know my name.
Refrain
I am the Word that leads all to freedom,
I am the peace the world cannot give.
I will call your name, embracing all your pain,
Stand up, now walk, and live!

Communion Song On Eagle's Wings
Michael Joncas
1. You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,
who abide in his shadow for life,
say to the Lord: My refuge, my rock in whom I trust.
Refrain: And he will raise you up on eagle's wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of his hand.
2. The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
and famine will bring you no fear:
under his wings your refuge, his faithfulness your shield.
3. You need not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day;
though thousands fall about you, near you it shall not come.
4. For to his angels he's given a command to guard you in all of
your ways;
upon their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.

FINAL COMMENDATION
The final commendation is the last farewell to the body by members of
the Christian community, an act of respect for the one who has died. We
entrust them to the tender and merciful embrace of God. This act of last
farewell also acknowledges the reality of separation and affirms that the
living and the dead, baptized into the one Body of Christ, share the same
destiny, resurrection on the last day. On that day the One Shepherd will
call each by name and gather the faithful together in the new and
eternal Jerusalem. We incense the body as an act of respect for that
which was the temple of the Holy Spirit and is now to be returned to the
earth from which it was made.
Song of Farewell The Hand of God Shall Hold You
Refrain: The hand of God shall hold you,
The peace of God enfold you,
The love that dreamed and formed you,
Still surrounds you today;
The light of God beside you,
above, beneath, inside you,
The light that shines to guide you home
to the Loving Hand of God
Recessional Holy God We Praise Thy Name
1. Holy God, we praise thy name! Lord of all, we bow before thee;
All on earth thy scepter claim, All in heav'n above adore thee;
Infinite thy vast domain, Everlasting is thy reign.
Infinite thy vast domain, Everlasting is thy reign.
2. Hark! the loud celestial hymn Angel choirs above are raising;
Cherubim and Seraphim In unceasing chorus praising,
Fill the heav'ns with sweet accord; Holy, holy, holy Lord!
Fill the heav'ns with sweet accord; Holy, holy, holy Lord!
3. Holy Father, Holy Son, Holy Spirit, Three we name thee,
While in essence only One, Undivided God we claim thee,
And adoring bend the knee, While we own the mystery.
And adoring bend the knee, While we own the mystery.

KENNEALY FAMILY
Ancestors of the Kennealy family presently in Eagan are descended
from Richard and Catherine (O'Meara) of Ireland, who came to America
in 1846 and 1850, first settling in Illinois and in 1854 coming to St.
Paul, where Richard Kennealy: was a teamster from St. Paul to Mendota.
He moved to Hennepin county and to Eagan in 1858, where he had 160
acres in Section 32, near the present Zoo site.
His Son Thomas Kennealy farmed 160 acres including part of the
Black Dog village.. He was a justice of the peace, school board member,
Dist. #104, and was market master in St. Paul at the time of his death.
He sought the office 'of county commissioner and state representative.
.His son, Thomas E. Kennealy, also farmed on Highway 13 and Cedar avenue
and served on the school board. About 1920, mining of foundry sands
began on the property and continued until recent years by his son,
Joseph W. Kennealy, who engaged in black dirt sales and excavating.
It is on this farm that Indian graves were located and were removed
prior to the Cedar Avenue freeway landfill operation. Apartment houses
and homes are now built on the farm. Joseph Kennealy and his family
live on the property, as did Richard T. Kennealy, who moved recently to
Wisconsin. A sister, Helen Adelmann, also lives in Eagan. Joseph
Kennealy was a member of the Dist. #104 school board whenit merged to
form Dist. #191, Burnsville, about 1955. Counterfeit money was
' found buried on the property in the 1960's.

As a lifelong Eagan resident, Joseph

history.

Eagan `pioneer'
(continued)
Kennealy was born Dec. 16,
1922. He graduated from the old
Bloomington High School.
Foundry sand was mined on
the family land starting around
1920, but it was Kennealy who
formed Kennealy Sand Co. in
1943..
"He had a lot of pride that it
was coming off the family land,"
said son Tom Kennealy, of
Eagan, who worked with his
father for about 20 years.
The changes in . Eagan
from a rural community to a
bustling suburb - — didn't
bother Kennealy, said- daughter
Rose Karas, of Inver 'Grove
Heights.
"He looked towards the
future and he enjoyed seeing the
progress that was happening,"
she said. "He had no desire to
move or change things."
He also took pride in his Irish
heritage, Karas said.
"Ile was kind of a little lep-.
+rechaun; he had'a real twhilde
in his eye," she said.
Kennealy met Elisabeth
Feely, who. became . the first
female journalist for the Dakota
County Tribune, at a dance.
They were married for 54 years
before her death in December.
Through the years, the two
always loved dancing together,
Karas said.
In the .1960s, some roads
didn't have official names, but
they were needed for mail deliv-
ery. On • the front yard of the
Kennealys' home was a large sil-
ver bell, which was rung at sup-
pertime to summon the eight
children home, Karas said. That
bell was the inspiration for the
name — Silver Bell Road — that
Kennealy submitted.
Also during the 1960s, he was
a founding member of Mary,
Mother of the Church, a Catholic
church in Burnsville.
He. was a hard-working man
— he used to tell stories of try-
ing to dig out sand in winter
but he had a soft spot for flow-
ers, said Daughter Margaret
Mollner of Burnsville.
When other varieties of sand
became more commonly used,
Kennealy got into landscaping
and snowplowing, said . Tom
Kennealy. In recent years, since
Kennealy stopped working part
time a few years ago, the busi-
ness hasn't really been active,
Tom said.
Kennealy, a . Knights of
Columbusmember, was, by
nature, a social . man, Mollner
said. His funeral was attended
both by close friends and family
and by people he met : in the
everyday course of life: bank
tellers, pharmacists,:a butcher.
"I think that shows he was all
about relationships and connec-
tions," she said:.
Joseph Connolly, a . retired
city official, came to know Ken-
nealy when he moved to Eagan
in 1960 and needed black dirt for.
his own property;'
"Everything he did' was top-
notch," he said. "Among the peo-
ple involved in the community, I
think his name and legacy will
hang around for some time." .
Kennealy is also survived by

Thank you for sending us the minutes that indicate a plaque in my mother Elisabeth's memory. I

Her name is spelled Elisabeth Kennealy
My mother so much enjoyed being a member of this committee and our family appreciates this

The group agreed that it would like to find a special project for this money to be dedicated to that would be
visible within the community. They did not determine exactly what that will be, however. One of the projects
we are looking into is a permanent Historical Marker (brass -look) like those produced by the MN Historical
Society, in front of the 1914 Town Hall. We also discussed the possibility that a monument like this might be
designed to hold additional name plates that could be added as members (such as Elisabeth) can be
recognized upon their passing and remembered for their work with the Historical Society. I will be researching
this possibility further and Bill Wolston has promised to provide some info regarding a similar project which he
did.
Thanks for taking care of this letter.
Take Care,
Joanna

Hi Joanna: - I was about to write a thank you to Joe and then thought I should double check with you
to see if the Committee came up with any idea of how we would use the money. I hate to just put it in
our account and use it for misc. things. Any suggestions?
Thank you, Gin
