08/08/2023 - Eagan Historical SocietyEagan Historical Society Minutes August 8, 2023 Present: Joe Reid, Mary Ellen Voracek, Lynae Gieseke, Ashleigh Sullivan, Lori Tripp, Dawn Simpson, Tim Dulac and Kim Hazel 11:21 meeting came to order New Business There is no long-term capital maintenance plan for the OTH building. Maintenance issues are handled as they come up. Ashleigh asked that volunteers continue to communicate issues to her so that she can relay to maintenance staff. Paul Watltry is getting bids for painting and replacing bad boards. Kim suggested we include the outhouse in the bids. The outhouse was never painted to match the OTH after the remodel. Lori said we have the color of the paint and remodel info in our office in the basement. We all agreed that Joanna’s help on public speaking and the Laserfiche project would be much appreciated. The fall open house will be Sunday, September 24th from 11am to 2pm. The following have volunteered to be there: Joe, Mary Ellen, Lynae and Tim. Ashleigh will advertise on the City of Eagan web site, and possibly the signboard. Old Business Lynae is trying to work 3 hours a week. However, she is unable to work the next few weeks. Lori is working with the City Clerk and Community Development on what to do with the fire proof file cabinets and their contents that were brought down to our area. They need to figure out if they need to be scanned, kept or destroyed. Lori worked 2 days in July 6-7 hours a day on the police files. She thinks she is about ¼ done with the legal size boxes and pictures. She is identifying and labeling the pictures. The Chief said he would like her done with the project by September 2024. Lori feels she will be done before that date. They are also trying to figure out budgeting for the project. Lori went over to the new Kwik Tripp on 149 and took pictures of the counters. It turned out great! Feather flag stand was installed in the wood chips. We all agreed it is in a good spot. We all agreed the table in the library would be great exposure for the EHS. We need to find out when a few big events at the library are and see if we can get 2 volunteers to work the event. Have a sign-up sheet for people interested in volunteering with the group. Hand out book marks and sell cards and books. Dakota County Historical Society Update Joe stated they are having a Zoom Meeting in August. But, he may be traveling so he will not be able to attend. Other Notes of Interest The property is no longer for sale at 1360 Lone Oak Road. All old documents that were scanned have been destroyed. So, we have more room for other things. Lori kept all the boxes that stuff was in. The old Fire Department Eagan phonebooks that we had were scanned, the books have been recycled as the books were taken apart during the scanning process and were just loose pages. Reminder to keep up to date on your time sheets. Next EHS meeting Tuesday, September 12 at the Old Town Hall from 11am to 1pm. We will also have a pop-up open house.
