FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Eagan town records note that "...on the 28th day of April
A. D. 1861 town notices were posted in three of the most public
places in Eagan, one of which was "opposite the town Clerks (sic)
office on a Bur oak Tree." That tree was the Lone Oak Tree, which
in time became the symbol of the City of Eagan. This year, the
125th birthday of Eagan, the history of the City of Eagan has been
published and is appropriately titled, "Lone Oak Years."
Work on the history book was begun in 1978 when the City
Council appointed a history committee comprised mostly of repre-
sentatives from the "founding families" of Eagan. A staff member
was also assigned to the project. The first chairperson of the
committee was the late Herbert Polzin, the first mayor of Eagan
and the person to whom the book is dedicated. The second chairper-
son is Frank Dembroski, "whose perserverance in researching hundreds
of sources, seeking photographs and organizing materials gave the
book its shape and scope."

Committee and staff members researched literally hundreds
of written and verbal resources in order to obtain the information
related in the book. As the introduction states, "This is a folk
history, built in part of memories, anecdotes, stories and specula-
tion, attempting to record things that otherwise might have been
lost." The book has been designed both for those residents "whose
families are a part of Eagan's history" and also for more recent
residents who would like to know about their city's history.
The more than 230 page book contains over 150 historic
photographs and is bound with a dark green hard cover printed in
gold. The inside pages have a slight "antique" look that compli-
ments the old photos and the historic facts. Lisa Fleming coordina-
ted and edited the book into its final form. She is also respon-
sible for the design of the book.
In addition to Dembroski, members of the history committee
include Alyce Bolke, Arnold Carlson, James Diffley, Elisabeth Ken-
nealy, Arthur Rahn, Leotta Schwanz and Rodger Slater.
"Lone Oak Years" will be offered for sale at a booth in
Rahn Park during City Celebration/Fourth of July Weekend events.
The price of the book is $8.95. After the weekend, the book will
be available for purchase at the Eagan Municipal Center and the
Eagan Library.
