Document - Historical information/data - Press Release announcing commemorative items for sale at Eagan's 125th birthday celebration. - 6/25/1985 CITY OF EAGAN AM PILOT KNOB ROAD P.O. BOX 21100 EAGAN, MINNESOTA 55121 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Commemorative clocks and pieces cut from the original Lone Oak Tree will be among souvenir items offered for sale by the City Celebration Committee during the city's 125th birthday party this coming holiday weekend. The committee will operate a booth at Rahn Park July 4 and 6 which will feature memorabilia of the City of Eagan. The oak pieces are cross sections cut from branches of the Lone Oak Tree, which had to be cut down in the spring of 1984. The wood has been treated and aged since that time. The sections vary in size from about 2 inches in diameter to 6 inches and more. Prices will vary according to size, starting at 50G each. Some pieces will have the Lone Oak Tree symbol burned into the wood's surface. Those pieces will cost $1.50. Stickers with the symbol may be affixed to the other pieces if the purchaser so desires. Larger cross sections will also be available in limited quantities for special order. The clocks were handmade by students at Rosemount High School and were donated by them to the City Celebration Committee. Each clock contains a piece of the Lone Oak Tree placed on a back- ground which depicts a symbol of the tree and a brief printed history. (more) City of Eagan Souvenir Release Page Two Only fifteen clocks are presently available. Ten more will be completed in the fall of 1985. The clocks are priced at $45.00 each. Because it is anticipated that there will be more prospective purchasers than there are clocks available, anyone wishing to purchase a clock will be asked to fill out a card with their name and address at the souvenir booth. Twenty-five names will then be drawn the evening of July 6 and those persons will be able to purchase a clock. Also on sale at the booth will be t-shirts carrying the City of Eagan 125th birthday logo. The logo, which was designed by Bret Meier of Eagan, a student at Rosemount High School, was the winner in the logocontest held this past spring. The four color logo will be printed on a white background. The shirts will be available in a variety of sizes and will cost $4.50 each. The booth will also feature the newly printed "Lone Oak Years," the history of the City of Eagan. The more than 230 page hard-cover book features over 150 photographs and is the result of over seven years of work by residents and staff of the City of Eagan. Copies of the book are priced at $8.95 each. Tickets for the community turkey roast picnic will also be available at the booth. The tickets cost $4.50 for adults. Children under 10 will eat for half price. The turkey roast will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 6. The menu includes charcoal roasted turkey, baked potatoes, coleslaw, relishes, rolls, a beverage and a piece of Eagan's birthday cake. Any extra proceeds will be used to commission a sculpture (carving) which will be created from the main trunk portion of the original Lone Oak Tree and which will be put on permanent public display. -30- 6/25/85 Contact: Holly Duffy, 454-8100 PRICE LIST 'till 011 IIIRS' (hu llislorj Hoot) ~ I.lS IICIIhS91V19 VVI1 OiS! !IC?S (JV1 q I Aso 1118 Oil11RB 1lKCS £liii 111 - 11 - 1I.11 hrial 1L61 till III tom In 61111 VeiLcr it joi tis6 to pichca a olett; 11 11i11 sill it 6111 01 Ids I.
