MINUTES OF THE
CITY CELEBRATION COMMITTEE
May 13, 1985
A special meeting of the Eagan Celebration Committee was held on Monday,
May 13, 1985, at 4:30 p.m. at the Eagan Municipal Center. Present were
resident members Carol Bergh, Sandra Masin, John McElligott and Mary Voracek;
Larry Wenzel representing the Chamber of Commerce; Don Klober representing the
Fourth of July Association; and Loren Nelson representing the Ministerial
Association. Also present were City Councilmember Wachter and Administrative
Assistant Holly Duffy. Absent were resident member Rod Smith, Bob Treichel
representing the Volunteer Fire Department, Ken Ketcham representing the Eagan
Lions, Bruce Harries representing the Jaycees, Richard Bertz representing the
Minnesota Valley Exchange Club, and Brad Benzick representing the Optimists.
Turkey Roast
Chairperson Wenzel reported that he had met with Mary Jane Sonnek of the
Mendota Heights Lions Club and had received from her an outline of steps to be
accomplished in order to successfuly hold the turkey roast. The outline had
been distributed to committee members. Committees were set up from the
outline and committee members selected to be in charge of each. The
committees and their chairs are as follows:
1. Publicity: Mary Voracek, Chair. Holly Duffy to help. Don Klober will
check on tickets.
2. Paper Products, Grocery Items: Carol Bergh, Chair. Bergh will check
with both Country Club and Dick's Foods for any discounts which might be
possible.
3. Pick up and Set Up of Equipment: Larry Wenzel, Chair. Wenzel has a
truck and will be in charge of picking up the turkeys, the turkey bar-b-que,
the tent, chairs, tables, and other equipment. He will also be in charge of
the set up.
4. Thawing, Spitting, Cooking, Carving & Serving Turkeys: Brad Benzick,
Bruce Harries, John McElligott and an Exchange Club member were tentatively
appointed as co-chairs. It was thought that they possibly would be able to
draw the most helpers from their respective organizations. The charge of each
of the different sections of this committee could be assigned to one of these
individuals.
5. P.A. System: Don Klober, Chair.
6. Rax Potatoes: Sandy Masin, Chair.
It will be necessary to check with the Parks & Recreation Department
concerning the number of tables which would be available for use and also the
location for the bar-b-que.

Miscellaneous needs were as follows:
1. Electric Roasters - Klober has two.
2. It will be necessary to use metal, not plastic, coolers.
3. A refrigerated truck. There is a possibility that it could be donated by
Coke.
4. Use divided plates.
5. Posts & Rope.
6. Cash box.
7. Water supply. Wenzel will check.
The price of the tickets was set at $4.50 for adults. Children under 11
would eat for half price.
Publicity
The committee requested that Duffy produce sign-up sheets for volunteers
and have them posted by the weekend. Masin volunteered to post the sheets.
It was suggested that signs be erected throughout the community
advertising the turkey roast. Wachter will check with the City Council
regarding permission for the posting. Klober will check on prices.
A booth will be available for the committee's use to sell the history
book and Lone Oak Treee pieces. McElligott presented prices for t-shirts,
and bumper stickers which would be printed with the celebration logo. Upon
motion by Masin, seconded by Klober, with all members voting in favor, the
ordering of 1500 four-color bumper stickers at a cost of $ .21 each was
authorized. The committee will attempt to sell the bumper stickers prior to
as well as at the celebration for publicity purposes at the price of $ .25
each. Upon motion by Voracek, seconded by Bergh, with all members voting in
favor, the ordering of 400 four-color t-shirts was authorized at a price of
$3.14 each. The committee would sell the shirts for $4.50 each. Duffy will
check with the State of Minnesota regarding sales tax for all items.
Meeting Scheduled & Adjournment
A special meeting was set for Wednesday, May 29, 1985. Members are to
report their personnel needs and methods by which these people can be
recruited. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:15 p.m.
