Document - Historical information/data - Press release announcing formation of committee to plan 125th birthday celebraiton events - 2/6/1985 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: This year is the City of Eagan's 125th birthday. Mayor Bea Blomquist and members of the City Council felt that this special anniversary should be recognized by a "celebration". They approved the establishment of a City Celebration Committee consisting of members representing the community as a whole and also members re- presenting local service organizations. The purpose of the committee was envisioned to be threefold: (1) To design and organize events to celebrate Eagan's birthday; (2) To coordinate the publication of the City's history book with the birthday events; and (3) To make recommendations concerning the coordination of the use of the symbolic wood from the Lone Oak Tree with the birthday. The City Celebration Committee has held two meetings. General, preliminary discussions concerning the three purposes of the com- mittee were held and the committee membership was divided into three subcommittees. Members of the committee include resident representatives Carol Bergh, Sandra Masin, John McElligott, Rod Smith and Mary Voracek; Bob Treichel representing the Volunteer Fire Department; Ken Ketcham representing the Eagan Lions; Bruce Harries representing the Eagan Jaycees; Reverend Loren Nelson representing the Ministerial Association; Richard Bertz representing the Minnesota Valley Exchange Club; Larry Wenzel representing the Chamber of Com- merce; Don Klober representing the 4th of July Association; and Brad Benzick representing the Optimists. City Councilmember Ted Wachter is the Council's liaison to the committee. 2/6/85 -30-
