Document - Historical information/data - Press release announcing formation of committee to plan 125th birthday celebraiton events - 2/6/1985
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
This year is the City of Eagan's 125th birthday. Mayor Bea
Blomquist and members of the City Council felt that this special
anniversary should be recognized by a "celebration". They approved
the establishment of a City Celebration Committee consisting of
members representing the community as a whole and also members re-
presenting local service organizations.
The purpose of the committee was envisioned to be threefold:
(1) To design and organize events to celebrate Eagan's birthday;
(2) To coordinate the publication of the City's history book with
the birthday events; and (3) To make recommendations concerning
the coordination of the use of the symbolic wood from the Lone Oak
Tree with the birthday.
The City Celebration Committee has held two meetings. General,
preliminary discussions concerning the three purposes of the com-
mittee were held and the committee membership was divided into three
subcommittees.
Members of the committee include resident representatives
Carol Bergh, Sandra Masin, John McElligott, Rod Smith and Mary
Voracek; Bob Treichel representing the Volunteer Fire Department;
Ken Ketcham representing the Eagan Lions; Bruce Harries representing
the Eagan Jaycees; Reverend Loren Nelson representing the
Ministerial Association; Richard Bertz representing the Minnesota
Valley Exchange Club; Larry Wenzel representing the Chamber of Com-
merce; Don Klober representing the 4th of July Association; and Brad
Benzick representing the Optimists. City Councilmember Ted Wachter
is the Council's liaison to the committee.
