JAMES SLATER
James Slater was born in Limerick
County, Ireland in 1820. He mi-
grated to New York and eventually
moved to Minnesota in 1854. He
married Bridget O'Brien in 1840
and they had seven children,six of
whom were born in the log cabin
on his original claim. The Slaters
also owned land near the Mendota
Bridge, which is now part of Fort
Snelling State Park.
James Slater served on the Town
Board of Supervisors in 1861. His
son James Jr. was Town Board
Chairman in 1919,1924 and 1925.
He was a supervisor in 1917,1918,
1920 - 1923.
