Document - Historical information/data - Organizing a New Township - 4/3/1860 C When the county first established townships on April 6, 1858, the area of Eagan was included as part of Mendota. An attempt was made by the County's governing body to organize a new township called Montgomery on April 20, 1858, consisting of Sections 13 through 36 (the area of Eagan south of present Yankee Doodle Road), but this concept was rejected at the same meeting. The designation of the Township of Eagan and the organization of its government took place in 1860. A special law was passed in March of that year by the state legislature which established the township, with the first meeting for the election of town officials held on April 3, 1860, in the home of Michael Comer (not "Conner", as his name was spelled in the law). The results of this first election were as follows: Board of Supervisors Patrick Eagan, Chairman James Collar Robert O'Neill Town Clerk: Michael Comer Town Treasurer: William Diffley Assessor: Thomas Fannan Constables: Patrick Mooney Louis Sansoucey Justices of the Peace: Michael Kirby William Harper Road Overseers: Patrick Eagan Anthony Devitt Michael Cain
