RE: Drainage Easement
Dear Mr. Williams:
Thank you for contacting us regazding your plans to install a concrete slab alongside your garage. As we
discussed, there is a 5-Foot drainage and utility easement on the north side of your proper[y. You are
allowed to place the slab within the drainage and urility easement, as long as you are aware that items
placed in an easement are at your own risk. Thexe are occasions when the City or a private utility company
may need to access an easement azea to maintain utility lines. Objects or shuctures placed within an
easement area would be removed as necessary to accomplish the required work. The City does not repair,
replace, or reimburse for items or structures removed that have been placed within the easement uea.
We would like to see you accomplish your objecrive of providing an extension on yonr driveway while
avoiding adversely affecting the drainage pattem. We feel the following steps would allow you ro maintain
a drainage flow beneficial to your property as wel] as surrounding properties:
• Center slope the concrete so that drainage flows from your properry and does not collect on your
property oc adjacent properties.
• Install drain tile along and beyond the slab edge, confining all construction to within your
property.
• Install a gutter and down spout along the northerly edge of the garage.
• Please be aware that there is additional drainage that will flow from the northeast comer of your
properiy and [here may be further potential drainage issues. We are available to answer any
further questions you may have concerning this.
