Mechanical permits are required to install the boiler and any process piping systems. 2. A plumbing permit is required far the plumbing connection of the potable water supply to the boiler/process hot water system. 3. An electrical permit is required for the electrical wiring work involved with the project. 4. A building permit is required to install the reGuired one-hour fire-resistant occupancy separation boiler room. (ReFer to Uniform Building Code, Section 708). 5. Additionally, an "Industrial SAC application" must be submitted to the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission (MWCC). Contact MWCC at 772-7010. Storage of Class 1 liquids shall not be allowed in Group B, Divisions I, 2 and 3 Occupancies and the handling and use of gasoline, fuel oil and other Class I, II, or Itl-A liquids shall not be permitted in any Group B Occupancy unless such use and handling comply with the Fire Code. Devices generating a glow or flame capable of igniting gasoline vapor shall not be installed or used within 18 inches of the floor in any room in which Class [ tlammable tiquids or gas are used or stored. Every room containing a boiler, central heating plant or hot-water supply boiler shall be separated from the rest of the building by not tess than a one-hour fire- resistive occupancy sepazation. EXCEP'I'ION: Boilers, central heating plants or hot-water suppty boilers where the largest piece of fuel equipment dces not exceed 400,000 Btu per hour input. Buildings erected or converted to house high-piled combustible stock shall comply with the Fire Code. Open Parking Garagea Sec. 709. (a) Scope. Except where specific provisions are made in the follow- ing subsections, other requirements of this code shall apply. (b) Definitions. 1. General. For the purpose of this section, certain terms are defined as follows: OPEN PARKING GARAGE is a structure of Type [ or Type II construction with the openings as described in Subsection 2 on two or more sides and which is used ezclusively for the pazking or storage of private or pleasure-type motor vehicles. 58 1988 EDITION 905-910 a'v every 15 minutes. Doors which are a part of an automobile ramp enclosure shall be equipped with automatic closing devices. Sprinkler and Standpipe Systems Sec. W. Chimneys and heating apparatus shall conform to the requirements of Chapter 37 of this code and the Mechanical Code. Every boiler, cenual heating plant or hot-water supply boiler shall be sepuated from the rest of the building by not less than a two-hour fire-resistive occupancy sepazation. In Divisions 1, 2 and 3, there shall be no openings in such occupancy separations ezcept for necessary ducts and piping. In Division 4 Occupancies, devices which generate a spazk, flame or glow capable of igniting gasoline vapors shall not be installed or used within 18 inches ot the floor. Equipment or machinery which generates or emits combustible or explosive dust or fibers shall be provided with an adequate dust-collecting and exhaust system installed in conformance with the Mechanical Code. Equipment or sys- • tems that are used to collect, process or convey combustible dusts or fibers shall be provided with an approved ezplosion venting or containment system. Combustible fiber storage rooms or vaults having a capacity of more than 100 cubic feet shall be sepazated from the remainder of the building by a two-hour fire- rcsistive occupancy sepazation. Special inspections required by this section and eisewhere in this code shall not be required where the work is done on the premises of a fabricator registered and approved by the building officialto perform such work without special inspection. The certificate of registration shall be subject to revocation by the building official if it is found that any work done pursuant to the apptoval is in violation of this code. The approved fabricator shall submit a CertiFicate of Compliance that the work was performed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications to the building official and to the engineer or architect of record. The approved fabricator's qualifications shall be contingent on compliance with the following: 1. The fabricator has developed and submitted a detailed fabrication proce- dural manual reflecting key quality control procedures which will provide a basis for inspection control of workmanship and the fabricator plant. 2. Verification of the fabricator's quality conuol capabilities, plant and per- sonnel as outlined in the fabrication procedural manual shall be by an approved inspection or quality control agency. 3. Periodic plant inspections shali be conducted by an approved inspection or quality control agency to monitor the effectiveness of the quality control pro- gram. 4. It shall be the responsibility of the inspection or quality controi agency to notify the approving authority in writing of any change to the procedural manual. Any fabricator approval may be revoked forjust cause. Reapproval of the fabrica- tor shall be contingent on compliance with quality control procedures during the past year. Certif Icate of Occupancy S.'c• 307. (a) Use and Occupancy. No building or structure shall be used or ? occupied, and no change in the existing occupancy classification of a building or structure or portion thereof shall be made until the building official has issued a Certificate of Occupancy therefor as provided herein. EXCEPTION: Group R, llivision 3, and M Ocwpancies. Issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy shall not be construed as an approval of a violation of the provisions of this code or of other ordinances of the jurisdiction. Certificates presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of this code or of other ordinances of the jurisdiction shall not be valid. (b) Change in Use. Changes in the chazacter or use of a building shatl not be made except as specified in Section 502 of this code. (c) Certifcate Issued. After the building official inspects the building or SWChire and finds no violations of the provisions of this code or other laws which are enforced by the code enforcement agency, the building official shall issue a Certificate of Occupancy which shall contain the following: I - The building permit number. 2- The address of the building. 3• 'Ihe name and address of the owner. 501-503 UNIFORM BUILDINQ CODE Part III REQUIREMENTS BASED ON OCCUPANCY Chapter 5 CLASSIFICATION OF ALL BUILDINGS BY USE OR OCCUPANCY AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL OCCUPANCIES Occupancy Classified Sec. 501. Every building, whether existing or hereafter erected, shall be classified by the building official, according to its use or the chazacter of its occupancy, as a building of Group A, B, E, H, I, M or R as defined in Chapters 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. (See Table No. 5-A.) Any occupancy not mentioned specifically or about which there is any question shali be classified by the building official and included in the group which its use most neazly resembles, based on the existing or proposed life and fire hazard. Change in Use Sec. 502. No change shall be made in the character of occupancies or use of any building which would place the buifding in a different division of the same group of occupancy or in a different group of occupancies, unless such building is made to comply with the requirements of this code for such division or group of occupancy. EXCEPTION: The character of the occupancy of existing buildings may be changed subject to the approval of the building official, and the building may be occupied for purposes in other groups without conforming to all the requirements of this code forthose groups, provided the new or proposed use is less hazardous, based on life and fire risk, than the existing use. No change in the chazacter of occupancy of a building shail be made without a Certificate of Ocwpancy, as required in Section 307 of this code. The building official may issue a Certificate of Occupancy pursuant to the intent of the above exception without certifying that the building complies with all provisions of this code. Mixed Occupancy Sec. 503. (a) General. When a building is used for more than one occupancy purpose, each pazt of the building comprising a distinct "Occupancy," as de- scribed in Chapters 5 through 12, shall be sepazated from any other occupancy as specified in Section 503 (d). EXCEPTIONS: 1.
