Deaz Mr. Howazd:
A review of the building plans submitted for the porch constructed on your property
without a building permit found the following items need to be addressed:
1. Indicate size and depth of footings and block size. General procedure is for an 8"
x 16" footing and an 8" thick block.
2. Indicate height of walls, including half-wall, post spacing, type of plates, header
sizes, studs spacing, type of wall sheathing (plywood or built rite).
3. Submit detail showing how east wall will be constructed to make a 1-hour wall.
General procedure is 5/8" sheetrock on both sides of a 2" x 4", then exterior and
interior finishes.
4. Indicate roof rafter size, spacing, and attachment to house, as well as bolt size and
spacing.

unlawful "porch" constructed on your property at 1317 Easter Lane.

In reviewing the file, you have constructed a"porch" without first obtaining a building
permit and in violation of the Minnesota Building Code. A review of the file indicates
that the City has sent you at Ieast two letters advising you of the violations and you have
failed to hring your property into compliance as of October 11, 2601. Please be advised
that failure to obtain a required building permit and failure to comply with the
requirements of the Minnesota Building Code in constructing the "porch" on your
property may be each charged as a separate misdemeanor criminal offense, punishable by
90 days in jail, a fine of up to $1,000.00, or both.
It is the City's policy and objective to obtain compliance by a property owner for code
violations before issuing criminal complaints. Therefore, before our office moves
fonvard we are providing you one final notice for compliance. You must submit a code
approved design plan, building permit application, and obtain a building permit no later
than Friday, October 26, 2001, and bring the "porch" into compliance with the Minnesota
Building Code no later than 20 days from the date of the building permit to avoid further
action by our office.

writing, we have not received plans or a building permit application.
Section 106 - Permits, 1997 Uniform Building Code, listing the requirements for permits
is enclosed for your informarion. Our office is open at 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday
so homeowners, such as you, have an opportunity to meet with us. Please briug in plans
and apply for the necessary permits for this porch addition no later than August 20,
2001. Failure to do so may require further action by the City Attomey.
