designing the new members as shown at the above reference project and is based on drawings provided by
you. We designed the structure to resist lateral wind loads s; to the existing structure and
thr~gh the use of portal frames at the end wa .
Attached are 5 framing sheets with annotated framing notes showing the new members and connections. All
framing shall be shored and temporarily braced as required by the contractor and all minimum nailing shall
be in accordance with IRC Table R602.3(1). Lumber shall be minimum #2 SPF with treated lumber to be #2
S. Pine and engineered lumber to have Fb = 2600 psi with E = 1.9. Our calculations assume all lumber is of
good quality and does not have large splits and checks and shall be visually inspected by the contractor at
the time of construction. All fasteners in contact with treated lumber shall be G185 hot dipped galvanized or
equal
Concrete used for footings (4" slump) shall have a 28 day compressive strength of 3000 psi. The new
footings have been designed as a typical spread footing based on a presumptive load-bearing value of 2000
psf in accordance with Table R401.4.1 of the IRC. The existing footings have been assumed to be typical
spread footings on good soils that are assumed to be performing adequately. The contractor shall also verify
the condition of structural members and foundations affected by the remodeling. Exterior grade shall slope
away from the building and gutters with long downspouts should be used whenever possible. Foundation
backfill shall be granular.

As requested, we observed framing at the above referenced project. Our intent is to verify that the field
conditions match the original design intent. Our observations are limited to visual only and we did not
remove any finishes. Our observations are intended for us to become generally familiar with the quality and
the progress of the construction work relative to the Primary Structural System. Our work under Site Visits is
considered general observation and is not intended to include Special Inspections, Continuous Inspection,
Testing, or Quality Control verification.
Overall, the construction appears to have been done well. Here is a list of items and remedial actions
discussed during our site visit:
m" 1. Add 2 -1/4"x4" screws near the eaves at the first rafter against the house into a stud to supplement
the tension connection.
2. Add 4- 1/4" screws with 3" embed into both PSL corner posts from the header plates.
~Mi.3. Add 4 -1/4" screws at the rafter adjacent the tall 9 1/2" LVL middle posts with blocking in the cavity
and provide 3" screw embedment into the LVL post.
Aan~1M~4. At the 4-2x8 ceiling ties, provide 2 - USP HGA10 clips to the wall plates, plus, 1 - 1/4" x 6" screw

between and additional screws from the other face as required.

bases for the porch, add USP HGA10 clips butted tight against the post base on both the east and
west faces, and attach to the concrete with 2 - 1/4"x2" stainless steel concrete screws and 4 - 1/4" x
3" screws into the post.
