5. Specif;ically, window wells on the ttorth, west and south had
problems with the fill around the wells havinq slumped and
allowing water to stand next to the building.
I recommend the following procedures ta maintain the structural
integrity of the home anfl to clear up the problems descrihed
abave.
1. The moisture on tlae basement wall should Clear when the
drai,nage of runoff rainwater is directed away fzom the hause. T.
reconunend rain gutters and extended down-spouts to aocomplish
thia taak.
2. The aores of thi.s wa11 should be filled with grout and
reinforclnq rods should be installed in the grouC to prpvide
atrength and continuity. Z suggest 3/8 inch (,f3) deformed
reihforcing steel rods, one in every other Cora hole, minimum.
3. In thie case 2 recoxnmsnd that tihe mortar from this diaqonal
crack ba removed approximately 1 inch deep ana that the blvck
joi.nts ba tuckpointed to finish the joints. .
9. Adequate penaanent alope away from the house of a11
landscaping within 20 feat of the house wiil solve this problem.
5. Again, sloping the aurraunding ground away Prom the window
welis wi7.1 help this aituation. T suggest that removable xaitt
covers be p],aced over these wittdow wells to keep xuroff from khe
side Of the bullding from entering the wells. These window wel],s
should be adequately aaulked to keep out infii.tration of water
frnm the surrounding scils. '
6. whan Mr, xopacek reviewed the building, he determined that
the footing hdd sattled approximately 1/4 inch in the northwest
corner o£ the building appar8ntly above whare the wall may have
subsided while hackfiZlinq and/or as a result af water problems
(seepage) at that laaatioa. If euch a setitlement ht?s occurred, I
would recomtaend that the building be shimmed xith steel shims ,in
the noxthwest corner to approximately 1/9 inch abnve level.

soils when dried out will provide a 7puch greater bearing capaaity

CLAY LOAM SOTL WHICH HAS SETTLED. I ADVISEO THE,BUILDER TO DRAIN THI5
WATER AWAY FROM THE FOUNDATION WALLS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
THE WEIGHT OF THE BASEMEN7 WALLS AND THE HOUSE HAYE BEEN ON THE
FOOTINGS FOR ABOUT ONE MON7H. THE WET CLAY BACKFILL SOILS ARE CAUSING
SUBSTANTIAL ADDITIONAL WEIGHT ON THE SUPPORTING SOIIS BENEATH THE
