Dear Mr. Fe11en:
In response to your request, we have carried out the structura] engineering that you
directed: we have determined thc footing size and connection to the existing footing for
the new column at the residence identified above. We have based our design upon the (4)
page building plari that you provided us with (dated 6-25-02, project numher MB098, and
prepared by Fox-1 Drafting & Desib ).
Our design is in accordance with the proeedures and ]oad requirements of the Minnesota
State Building Code and the intemational Residentia] Code, 2006 edition. This includes
a floor live load of 40 psf, a floor dead load of IS psf, and an assumed allowable soil
bearing pressure of 2000 psf. There is assumed no roof load applied to the footing.
The new footing supports one end of a new beam which will be placed parallel to the
existing stairs as shown on the enclosed details on pages 3& 4 of 4 of this repori. The
new beam supports one end of the existing main floor joists with a span of 8'-6"f_ The
new beam also supports one end of the existing beam at the stairs which supports one end
of the existing (2) ply 1 3/4" x 9%z" LVL header at the rnain floor and one end of the (2)
ply 1 3I4" x 11 7/8" LVL header for the second floor. The new head has a span of 10'-4"t
and shall be a(2) ply 1'/<" x 9%" 2.OE LVL. The header shall be supported by a
minimum (1) ply 2x6 SPF trimmer and (2) ply 2x6 SPF king stud.

The new footing shall be 9" x 24" x 8" and shall be doweled into the existing footing
with (3) #4 rebaz. The rebar shall be drilled and force fit into the existing footing a
minimum 6" as shown on the enclosed details on pages 3& 4 af 4 of this report.
Our invoivement in the design of this structure is limited to the individual members
addressed and specified in this report. All other engineering and design remains the
responsibility of others.
