Apri111,2007 Mr. Clayton Benish 4156 JacoU Court Eagan, MN. 55123 RE: Driveway patch installed under City Contract 02-10 - North Dodd Road Dear Clayton, After our phone conversation on 3-30-07 regarding your driveway, I stopped by the following week to check the condition of the patch installed by Valley Paving in September of 2002 under the City contract mentioned above. I noticed edge cracking a bit wider than on your existing (non-patched) portion as well as one small azea which seems to be cracMng more than the rest of the driveway, but nothing that would indicate a failure in the patching. The edge cracking is typical on many driveways as there is less support on the sides of the pavement where it meets the grass. If a vehicle drives neaz the edge when the turf is soft, such as afrer a rain, it will flex the pavement. As the pavement gets older it gets more brittle and will eventually crack when driven on. The hairline cracks in the patched azea are identical to what is on your non-patched section which indicates the driveway has a uniform gravel base. Otherwise the craoks would be much larger and scattered throughout the driveway, not just near the edges. Based on the age of the patch area, it appears to be cracldng and wearing as would be expected for this climate. Given the condition of the patch, its age (almost 5 years old at this point), and that the contractor's warranty has expired (10-19-06), the City, unfortunately, is not in a position to do any repairs or repaving on your driveway.
