GENERAL NOTES
Verify all existing dimensions, member sizes and field conditions prior to starting
work. Notify engineer if conditions, materials, sizes and dimensions are
significantly different from those shown on the drawing.
Provide additional shoring, bracing and supports as necessary to perform the
work. Shoring and/or bracing shall be provided where the structural integrity or
safety of the structural members may be endangered by the Contractor's work.
Detail and conditions not specifically shown shall be constructed in accordance
with details shown for similaz conditions and/or the standazd practices for similar
wood framing structures. Unless otherwise noted, all reference standazds shall be
current edition, with latest addenda if applicable.
4. Along the charred portions of the truss member, clean and save as much as
possible. Avoid cutting member of the original truss when adding new pieces.
Do not cut the top or the bottom cords of the truss by any means or shape. Only
remove the charred layer by soda blasting and/or brushing.
5. Replace or repair all fire damaged 2x12 joists above the kitchen azea. If repair
is considered, connect two 2x12 newjoists to the existing portion and overlap
the joists 4' along the length. Glue and nail the boazds at the overlap as shown on
Detail 1/S2. A total of 4 fire damaged joists needing replacement and/or repair
were noted in the vicinity of the kitchen area. Replace all studs (vertical supports)
and plates in the sections of the walls damaged by the fire.
6. Glue and nail 16-long 2x4 boards along both sides of the damaged portion of the
bottom cord of all fire damaged trusses (total of 4 such trusses). Glue and nail
3'-long 2x4 boazds along both sides of the two web members (See 1/S3) of these
trusses that gusset plates can be installed over the new 2x4 boards at the
connection shown (4 such trusses). All lumberlmaterial shall be structural grade.
Strengthen the connection (shown on Details 1/S4 and 1/S5) with plywood gusset
plates for all trusses (total of 11). Add ties at the supports for all trusses.
The scope of our work was limited to providing details for restoration of the fire
damaged trusses and joists in the vicinity of the hot zone. The scope of our work
did not include any other portions of the building and/or its structure. Our repair
recommendations and details are based on the assumption that the original
engineered trusses are designed and manufactured properly and are structwally
sufficient for its intended load carrying purposes.
