Dear Mr. & Mrs. Baker:
At Rehecca Baker's request, I am writing this letter to clarify my position regarding the non-
compliance of the flat roof on your home.
Sela Roofing was granted a building permit to tear off and reroof your home; the applicahon did
not exclude any portion of the roof.
I performed a final inspection on 10/01/01 at which time I questioned the Sela representative
about roll roofing on a flat roo£ He indicated that they had not replaced that part of the roof and
did not lmow the composition of it. I declined to approve the final inspection of the roof because
it was incomplete.
The Nlinnesota Building Code does not specifically state the requirements for roll roofing. Instead
it defers to the manufacturer's installation instructions. Without ]mowing the manufacturer of the
existing roof, I chose Certainteed as one of the major suppliers of roll roofing. For your
information, I am enclosing their installation instrucfions staring, "Standard mineral-surFaced roll
roofing is used on decks that have slopes of 2 or more mches per foot."

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Baker:
At Rebecca Baker's request, I am writing this letter to clarify, my position regarding the non-
compliance of the flat roof on your home.
Sela Roofing was granted a building permit to tear off and reroof your home; the application did
not exclude any portion of the roof.
I performed a final inspection on 10/01/01 at which time I quesUoned the Sela representative
about roll rooSng on a flat roo£ He indicated that they had not replaced that part of the roof and
did not know the composition of it I declined to approve the final inspection of the roof because
it was incomplete.
The Minnesota Building Code does not specifically state the requirements for roll roofing. Instead
it defers to the manufacturer's installation iustmctions. Without knowing the manufacturer of the
existing roof, I chose Certainteed as one of the major suppliers of roll roofing. For your
information, I am enclosing their installation instructions stating, "Standard mineral-surfaced roll
roofing is used on decks that have slopes of 2 or more inches per foot."
