Subject: RE: Solar Garden - 3580 Kennebec
Pam,
I’m looking for my project notes/plans for this project with no luck yet. What was the project name?
From what I can remember the oak tree in question was close to the grade limit and the resulting grade
change/encroachment would have made survival chances low. I also seem to remember that this was a multi-stemmed
tree that would have been prone to negative effects from any “opening up” of the rest of the wooded area around it.
I think you could go ahead and close the project with a note that this tree would probably not survived following
construction. As you mentioned preservation is always preferred but sometimes not practical. I don’t recall what their
removal percentage was.
If/when I can find my notes I’ll get you more information if you need it.

Subject: Solar Garden - 3580 Kennebec
Gregg,
Do you recall last fall when we got this letter about the mistaken removal of a bur oak tree near the construction
entrance for the solar garden installation at 3580 Kennebec Dr.? I remember discussing it at one of our in-house
meetings, and collectively deciding there wasn’t much we could do about it after the fact. I’m trying to close the loop on
that issue, and write a memo for the file and respond to the contractor. What was our reasoning for that? Was it just
that it was an honest mistake and already done, or an we say that even though preservation of that tree was preferred,
the removal was within allowable limits so wouldn’t require mitigation?
Thanks for your input,
Pam
