Whi1e we certainly wsnt to do exactly whax you nced us to, and make sure that we a11 understand
each other and our requirements, this has never come up before which is the real source of our
confusion at this end. In our manuals, we show only the components that are certified for use in
the installation of our pro@ucts. In this case, the certified wall thimble for use in the installation
with our product and our vent kits, is there to ensure that the safe clearance space is maintained
throughout. There are vatious ways to install a wall thimble. The key is the applicafion, not the
shape or size of this opening for it. As long as the size of the opening is adequate to house the
wall thimble without any distortions, and without being so large to ieave holes on the outside
when installed, the thimble will serve its purpose. I agree that the example in ow manual shows a
10" x 10" square hole. However, a round hole which dcesn't in&inge upon the diameter of the
thimble will suffice also.
The clearance required for the termination end of the installation is 1" to combustibles. The
thimble which provides an all rouad clearance on the pipe of more than 1" is only installed ai tlris
end, therefore complying with the safety requirement. The thimble is considered the stazt of the
termination end.
As Aitector in charge of this department, I have no hesitation in sapporting the installation in the
manner described.
