At your request, I have reviewed a foundation condition which you observed during a site
visit at the above refcrenced projecL Thank you for bringing this foundation condition to
my attention, since I am not always able to anticipate actual construction conditions in
the field.

Bescrintion: The particular Fondition wh'sch you observed is to be found on the
foundation plan ior the Typ units. Towazd the upper left-hand part of the plan, there
is a shoR stretch of 24 inch wide footirg where ? piers are located. As you observed
it, ihere is a significant vertical footing steprmediately under the pier which is the
"lowesf" of the tliree on the plan. 41
Evaluation: Fortunately, the posi load on the pier in question is of moderate size. ln any
case, the vertical footing step is braced on one side by the concrete foundation wa(1. As
lonb as the 24" wide horizontal footing extends underneath the vertical step Footing, the
post load in question will be adequately supported.
