for a 1,225 sq. ft. metal clad utility building. ihis type of building is
sametimes rePerred to as a"pole barn" aad creates neighborhood concern even

Several years ago the Sagan City Council requested that they reviev any large
metal-sided utilitq building in areas zoned R-1. C1ty Code 11.105d restricsts
utility buildings to a mazimum height of the principal building ezcept in
agriculturally-zoned areas. City Code 1120, Subdivision fif allovs a maximum
of 20% building coverage for all buildinga on the lot and City Code 11.20,

On October 28, 1996, the City of Eagan Protective Inspections Division performed an inspection of a garage
addition on your property. A building permit has not been issued for this garage and ttte following violarions
of the 1994 Uniform Building Code were noted:
• The structure had no foundation as required in Chapter 18.
• The wall system was not constructed to common building practices and provisions as set forth in Section
2326.
• The roof system was not constructed to the provisions as set forth in Section 2326 and Chapter 15.
At the time of this inspection, you stated that this structure was only temporary and would be removed after
the winter months. I discussed,this with Doug Reid, Chief Building Official, and senior building staff and
it was determined that the stntcture, as built, violates code requirements and could not be allowed to remain
"as is". Please remove, or rebuild this structure according to current building code requirements. If you
choose to rebuild this structure, you must first come in and apply for, and receive, a building permit from
the City of Eagan. I will expect that you advise me of your plans no later than November 15, 1996.

On October 28, 1996, the City of Eagan Protective Inspections Division performed an inspection of a garage
addition on your property. A building permit has not been issued for this garage and the following violations
of the 1994 Uniform Building Code were noted:
• The structure had no foundation as required in Chapter 18.
• The wall system was not conshucted to common building practices and provisions as set forth in Section
2326.
• The roof system was not constructed to the provisions as set foRh in Section 2326 and Chapter 15.
At the time of this inspection, you stated that this structure was only temporary and would be removed after
the winter months. I discussed this with Doug Reid, Chief Building Official, and senior building staff and
it was determined that the structure, as built, violates code requirements and could not be allowed to remain
"as is". Please remove, or rebuild this smictute according to current building code requirements. If you
choose to rebuild this structure, you must first come in and apply for, and receive, a building permit from
the City of Eagan. I will expect that you advise me of your plans no Iater than November 15, 1996.
