SO The purpose of this letter is to report the findings of a structural engineering review of the proposed placement of concrete topping. ASSIGNMENT Ulteig Engineers, Inc. (UEI) has been retained to provide a structural engineering review of the proposed placement of concrete topping supported by wood framing located at 1665 Four Oaks Road in Eagan, MN, as directed by the homeowner, Allison Curtis. BACKGROUND The foundation and wood framing which will support the proposed concrete topping have been installed. The City Building Inspections Department wishes to have an independent structural engineering review of the framing and foundation in regards to increased loading from the concrete topping. Scherer Brothers supplied the lumber and engineered wood products for the construction of this residence. b. The floor framing Installed Is LPI-32 117/8" I -joists. C, The header spanning across the center of the lower level garage is a (3) 13/0 x 18" microiam. 2. The following information was obtained through conversations with Allison Curtis: a. A 1 Y2" concrete topping will be placed over the floor framing. b. The topping will contain in-floor heat. C. The topping will weigh approximately 19 pounds per square foot. 3. Allison Curtis provided UEI with architectural plans dated 11-3-02. The following Information is noted- a. The maximum floor-span is approximately 18 feet from centerline to centerline of supports. b. The I-joists are spaced at 16 Inches on center. C. The foundation walls are constructed in accordance with UEI's cast-in- place master foundation wall drawings dated 1-1-03 by DLO Excavating & Poured Walls, Inc. d. As detailed in the master drawings, the strip footings are 20 Inches wide by 8 inches deep minimum at full height foundation walls and 18 Inches wide by 8 inches deep minimum at walkout walls- e. All headers are 9W' deep microlams unless noted otherwise on the plan. STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS 4. A structural engineering analysis of the wood framing and foundation supporting the concrete topping was performed and the following Information is noted: a. The structural framing and foundation Is structurally adequate to support the increased loads from the placement of the concrete topping. b.
