Inspected base of excavation at Lot 3, Block 2. The excavation is app-
roximately 12' deep at the southwest corner, grading up to 51-6' deep to the,
north, and B' 4' deep at the east The excavation is oversized beyond the
building lines to the rear oE the house , 11' in the garage area and s' in the
house area The excavation is dry, except for a 1' pool of water in the soutl
west corner of the excavation. All undesirable soils have been removed, exp(
ing a brown sandy clay base, except for an approximately 10' wide strip in
the eastern part of the house interior. At this location there is a 3' to 4
of fill over organic soil The organic soil is decomposina and aiving off a
bad odor.
It is recommended that the area under the support beams for the patio
be excavated down to firm inorqanic soil to avoid future settlement.
The organic soil pocket under the floor interior should be excavated
and vented, to eliminate the odor problem.

Approximately 8' of fill was laced on Lot 3 Block 2 in the summ r
of 1478. On July 16, 1979 we visuall ins ected the house area erforme
some hand auger probes, and recommend that test its be du to furth r
investigate the conditions.
On July 16, 1979 we met the excavator at the site and observed
2 test pits.
Test pit 1 is approximately in the middle of th h' td; ng area F
near the common wall line between the house and ara e

Test pit 2 is at the south-east corner of the garage, where it
abuts on the house portion of the building. This excavation revealed:

ANALYSIS OF FIINDINGS
It appears that the fill was placed over the original natural
without their prior remval.
The buried organic soils must be renoved from the building area.
It is reccrmiended that an excavation should be made along the
rear wall line, approximately 18' wide centered on the wall line.
This slnuld be i.nspected and approved prior to backfilling. Fill
used should be a clean inorganic soil, caipacted to 92% Maximinn Modified
Proctor Dxy Density.
