Dear Mr. Blom:
At your request I have performed calculations on the existing W-12
by 22 steel beam located in the garaqe above the double car stall
at the above referenced address. Attached you will find
calculations that show that the W-12 by 22 is not sufficient to
carry desiqn loading accordinq to the uniform building code.
Upon consulting with you on this, T agreed that a workable
solution would be to place an additional steel beam next to and
parallel to the one that is in place. The additional beam needed
to be at least as large as the existing W-12 by 22•
On July 13, 1990, I inspected the residence and even though the
beam had not yet been installed I talked with the builder and he
explained the construction method by which he would be installing
the beam. The steel beam that was delivered on the site was a
W-12 by 30 whicri is more than sufficient to carry the deficiency
in the design loads.
Assuming that the proper installation method is carried out that
the builder had discussed with me, I here by certify that this
additional W-12 by 30 beam in conjunction with the W-12 by 22 beam
in place will be more than adequate to carry the loading upon the
