As you requested, we have calculated the load carrying capacity of your standard light gage
metal decking panels. These panels consist of 16 gage channels with 1.375" flanges and a.586"
retum on the flanges. Each channel is 5.562" wide. My calculations indicate that these panels
can comfortably support a live load of 60 psf at a 4 foot span.
I understand that your typical deck joist consists of a double 2 X 8 at 2"-0" on center. For a 60
psf live ioad and #2 Southern Pine lumber, the typical joist can span up to 13'-6". For #1
Ponderosa Pine you can span up to 1 l'-0". For a 40 psf live load the allowable spans are 16'-0"
for Southern Pine and 13'-0" for Ponderosa Pine.
