Fleld Observatians :
(1) Tne inient of this soils inspection was bo check the soils at and 6elow the concrete foundations that
have been recently poured. There are five 4" x 4" w0od column5 ffom the houses second (rtiain)
level with a 20" diameter by 42" deep concrete foundation piers buried in qranular soils with a few
inches out of the grou»d.
(2) Three of the five supports were installed after inspection of the soils by municipal inspedors. They
wero not there for columns 4& 5, thus the inspeetors requssted that the contractor excavate
adjacent to the ConCrete toundetions and expose The soils for evaluation by a thirtl parry.
(3) Our inspeceion taok plaCe during the first snowfall of the season, flurffes that reached a depth of
0.5 inch. This ts not a larye amount, but it was enough to obscure the sofls in the base of the east
oufside excavation. TI1By appaafad to ne as granular as the soils adjacent to the northwest
fountlatfon but the runoff Ento the excavation produced a slurry-like matereal that made observation
and labeling of the materal nearly impossible from 6 feet above.
;d) The mosi representative of Ioca1 (deck area) soils was at the norfhwest foundation. Being near the
center of the house it received no runa#f. The excavation sides and battom were all uniform
