Spoke with new owner John Peters. His daughter would like to open a beauty salon in the lower
level and he had questions about the home occupation ordinance.
Emailed the city code to him.

John called. The room his daughter wants to use is in the lower level, and is only accessible from
the exterior of the home (there is no connecting door into the principal dwelling unit). I told him it
would need to have a connecting door to the principal dwelling.
He said they obtained all the necessary permits far remodeling, and he doesn't understand why it
wouldn't be allowed because the building inspectors signed off on it.
Spoke with Dale S and Jeff W concerning building code. Building code allows for a room that is
only accessible from the exterior of the home. (Typically a storage room.)
Called John. Explained the room itself does not violate building code, but when you change the use
of the room from a residential use (storage) to a business use (hair salon), you violate the zoning
code. He will discuss with family and decide whether to pursue installing a connecting door, which
is the simplest fix for this problem.
