Dear Mr. Lamoureux:
•6514909265 P :01
You had requested that we review the header condition for prtipceecl egress window at the above
address. It is -our understanding that the building is a one story frame structure with a hip
gable roof condition at the egress window location above the existing 12 concrete block
foundation wall location. The floor joists for the one story structure frame into the perimeter
wall plate with end bearing also above the egress location.
For our evaluation purposes, we have figured a foreign wall framing live load condition of 40 psf
and a dead load condition of 30 psE For the roof construction we have figured a live load of 40
be and a dead load of 20 ps£ We have therefore calculated that the perimeter well loading will
a maximum of 1200 pounds per running foot on the foundation wall construction.
The proposed window in this area will be two 29" wide by 47" tall windows with a center bearing
post comprised of 4" X 4 solid wood intermediate support for the lintel (actual 3 Ye x 3 l ie
wood, t2 or better), centered under the proposed steel header, It is our understanding that you
have proposed a 4X4WF junior beam. This member weighs 13.0 pounds per foot and has a
depth of 41/8" and flange with 4" with 3/8" average flange thickness.
Based on our calculations and review, it is our opinion that this beam has a factor of safety in
Erns of 2.0 for the proposed load condition. We recommend full bearing on the intermediate
support from top of post through any buck to bottom of beam. We further recommend that each
end of the beam have a minimum 1 eia" solid wood bearing extending from bottom of beam edge
down to treated rough sill condition to the remaining concrete block wall beneath the window
construction. We further recommend that a structural glue be used in the rough framing and
beam placement work.
