Paul, MN 55075 Re: Frost Footing LEMN #050892 Dear Nicolas: As raquested, wdve roviewed the capacity of your "Frost Footing". This footing coneists of a 2%" diametar 8 ga. galvan'~zed sbeel pipe bearing on a l5" diameter concrete pad. T'ho Coecrete is poured at the bottom of an augured hole at frost depth. The steel pipe has an end plate and is embedded in the concrate pad. Our calculations indicate that the footin~ capacity is controlled by bearing stress on the soil. With 1500 psf soil, tha footing capacity is about 1,800 pounds. By increasing the diametcr of the concrete pad, the capacity of tha footing could be proportionally inereased. For exampla, a 24" diameter paci would result in a 4700 pound capacity footing. We ~stimate the capacity of 1'he pipe at about 8000 pounds which constitutes the upper limit of the footting capacity.
