Dear Mr. Ridley:
My wife and I are deeply offended by your letter of November 21,
1990. We feel that your comments about the manner in which our
garbage was left at the ourbside were not cnly grossly miastated
but inaccurate as well. All, I repeat, ,~_l, of our garbage was
either in a garbage can or water-tight plastic container (aka a
plastic trash bag) with a very tight fitting cover. The only items
whieh were not so presented at curbside were the two recycling bins
(which we assumed were not to be so presented for collection.)
Your letter did not specifically identify any problems with our
trash. Are we therefore to assume that everything you mentioned in
your letter is a problem which we must act to correct? I hope that
this is not the case because if it is, you should be ashamed of
yourself for sending out a letter like you did without obtaining
all the facts first. We particularly did not enjoy your threat of
further City involvement. What do you mean by that?
We keep all of our trash in the front of our garage (twenty feet
away from the garage door) until the morning of piCkup. On
PTednesday morning we bring it down to the curb for pickup. If some
of our neighbors trash left out the niqht before happens to blow
into our yard we set that out at the curb also. Sometimes we do not
, put the neighbors trash in our receptacles at the curb especially
if it is too large. We will even'at times chase away any
neiqhborhood doqs in the vicinity which may have stumbled upon the
treats left for them on Wednesday morning.
Occasionally, we do throw out something which is too large to fit
in our garbage cans. Perhaps you sometimes have the same problem?
When this happens I oonfess that we do put it down by the curb on
the morning of garbage collection because we know that our garbage
company will pick it up anyway. Wa sometimes have to pay extra for
this service. This, however, was not the case the morning of the
21st when you were out spying on our garbage.
We do not keep our garbage outside. We do not keep it for longer
than one week on our premises. We do not leave it laying loose at
the curbside. Finally, most of the time we do ~ put it out the
night before it is due for collection.

i suggest, if you are truly interested in beautifying the
neighborhood in which I live, that you send someone out early in
the morning of each garbage day to pick up all the stray dogs which
are knocking over our neighbors garbage cans, tearing open their ,
garbage bags and spreading garbage all over our neighborhood.
The only City incclvenent we expect directly froae you cn this
matter is a letter of apology for your original latter to us.
