This report presents the results of observation wozk performed by our firm of the residence at
4556 Ttidgeview Drive in Eaban, Minnes°ta' The uope of our work was liznited to performing
a site visit to observc the existing disuess and submitting a rePort mc1udmg our opiUions
regarding the potential of che distxess being caused bY vibrations induced by the recent
constrv,ction of Eagaa Well #18. Our work was requested and autlnorized by John Hemming of
MSA on January 20, 1997.
CONCLUSIONS
Based on our observations and past cxperienced with similaz Projecu, our comments are as
follows:
1. The distress observad durin8 our site visit cOnsisted of two cractcs of the vypsum sheathiIIg
ceiling within the encryaaY• One craek extended out from the norrhwrst corner of the
sm9~ ~oor sWrvvay opening. T1ie second cracic was across the hallwaY ceiling from the
stairweil to a cioset on the west side.
2. Vibration monitoring was PeTformed on the rear patio at 4562 Ridgeview on April 22,
1996, during conscruction blasiing of the weII, at which time the maxiinum Peak paiticle

vibration recorded during our site visits on Aprjl 19 and June 30, 1996 were 0312 and
0.345 inch/seconds, respectively. ARer reviewing the video tapes of our preconstrucrioa
survey on February 3, 1996, we could not positively determine if the ~~ks were presenc
at that time.
3. It is our opinion, there is a very low probability that the observed dvstress was Caused
wholly by the ground vihrations of tine intensities recorded ac the adjacent house-
a. Research indicates a residente with modern gypsum slxeering will not rypically be
damaged by aibration leve3s of less than 0•75 inchlsecond• The Probabiliry of damage
&om vibrations below 0.5 inFhlseconds is less than 5%• Withsn zeseanh reviewed,
no damage was observed ac vibration leveis of iess than 4•79 inchlsec°ncl•
b. The location where the vibrarions were recorded was approxiunately 150' from the
source. The locadon of discress in che residence ac 4556 ltidgeview was an addiaonal
200' from the source of ihe vibrarions.
4. It is our opinion the PlasteT exacidng was not caused by the construction blasting. This rype
of cracking is normal for a house of this age and was most probably due to normal
environmea[al stresses. All homes eventually exhibit some cracking due to a variery of
environmental sffesses including humidity and temperature changes, foundation
5ettlemenUsoil consolidariom, variations iaa ground moisture and wind.
5. Humans uotice and react to vibrations at leve3s that aze Iower than the damaged threshold.
SWdies indicate that humans can Perceive vibrations at a much lower than level than what
will cause inr.ezior gypsusn sheeting cracking•
6. "I he cracking observed wi[hin the residence would be considered cosmetic in nature as the
cracking did not affect the loading carr}'ing eapacity of the structural system.
