We are pleased to inform you that we have completed our work for this project.
Scope of work
Our scope of work for this project was to respond to the questions resulting from the inspection
of the patio room installation at the above referenced project.
Project description
The project consists of the construction of a fifteen feet projection (15' 0") projection by sixteen
feet one inch (16' 1") wide gable style Champion patio enclosure on a timber framed deck. The
patio room is being constructed on an existing timber framed deck. The deck is approximately
six feet three inches (6' 3") high.
Background
The building inspector had asked for verification that the following items are acceptable to safely
carry the design loads for the project k

• The notched LVL ridge beam is adequate to support the design roof loads for the project
• The installation of the 3/" OSB sheathing on composite deck boards spaced at 16"c/c is
an acceptable installation.
• The installation of shingles on Champion's OSB sandwich panel roof panel is permissible
• The off centered location of the deck post on the pier foundation does not cause an
overstress of the bearing soil.

The design loads used for our evaluation are as follows:

Comments and Conclusions
The following comments and conclusions are presented:
Notched Ridge beam l
We were informed that the ridge beam was notched in accordance with the attached sketch
prepared by Champion of Minneapolis.
Based on our review it is our determination that the notched portion of the ridge beam
cantilevering 12" beyond the front wall of the enclosure is adequate to support the design roof
loads for the project.
Floor sheathing installation
We were informed that the 3l" OSB sheathing was installed on 5/4 composite deck boards spaced
at 16"c/c, The OSB sheathing was attached to the deck boards with 10d ring shank nails at 4-6"
c/c at panel edges and at 10"c/c in the field. The deck boards are attached to each wood joists
with 3-1 Od ring shank nails.
It is our opinion that the installation of the OSB as described is adequate, However, it is required
that the patio room base track be sufficiently attached into the wood framing of the floor system.
This will require the substitution of the LL358 Ledger Lok screws specified for this application in
the engineering package with LL005 Ledger Lok screws. The number of screws shall be as
specified in the engineering package for the patio room.
Roof Shingle attachment
Fastening of roof shingles to Champion's OSB sandwich panel is permitted. This panel contains
an OSB tap skin that is specifically designed to facilitate the installation of asphalt shingles.

Off-centered post installation
We were informed that the post under the corner of the room at the junction of the A and B-walls
is located approximately six inches off-center from the supporting pier foundation.
The pier foundation is 18" wide at the top and bells out to 24" its base. The post is attached to i
the concrete pier footing with Simpson ABA66 post base.
The footing is conservatively sized for a concentric load and as a result the eccentric loading
i
does not result in an overstress of the bearing soil.
However, due to the lack of edge distance the Simpson post base does not provide adequate
resistance to uplift loads. We therefore recommend that a 6" x 6" x W' 5-1/2" long steel angle
be installed to attach the post to the footing. The angle shall be attached to the pier footing with
(2) - 3/8" x 2-112" Wedge Bolt Powers and shall be attached to the post with (2)-1/2" diameter
through bolts.

not performed an inspection of the existing structure.
