The base soils consisted of a dry and firm clay loam. The unconfined compression strength of the soil was checked using a Soil Test Inc. CL-700A hand penetrometer. This test indicated acceptable soil strength in the range of 3.25-3.50 tons per square foot. A 5 foot hand auger boring conducted within the rear footings indicated firm subgrade soils consistent with those referenced at the base of excavation. No ground water was observed at full depth of boring probe, and the pad area appeared dimensionally correct and adequately oversized where required. Although all proposed footings and slabs appeared to be on natural ground, Boring Report #93076 dated July 22, 1994 as conducted by Allied Test Drilling Co. indicates the presence of undocumented fill in the area of this building. This report further recommends test pit observations and compaction tests of existing soils if the bearing capacity of these soils appear questionable. Based on the forementioned observations, it is our opinion, that the moisture content of the soils has decreased and that the subgrade soils are competent and acceptable without further corrections for construction of proposed structure.
