At that time, the basement and garage footing trenches had been excavated. Previous information from our initial soils investigation indicated that the house footings will be placed in natural soils. However, approximately 2 to 5 feet of fill were placed in the garage area. Hand Auger probes taken in the house footing trenches encountered medium dense silty sands with layers of fine to medium sand to the termination depth of 4 feet. Hand auger probes taken in the garage footing trenches encountered slightly silty sand fill underlain by natural. silty sands. Due to the amount of fill present in the garage area, several compaction tests were taken in this area in ful- fillment of the requirements as stated in FHA Data Sheet 79g. Compaction tests 167, 168, and 169, taken at the locations shown on the attached tabulation, indicate that the fill has been compacted to the specified minimum density of 900 of modified Proctor density, ASTM D1557-70. Based on cur inspection and compaction testing, it is ous opinion that the natural and fill soils underlying the proposed foundation in this lot will adequately support the anticipated house loads without excessive settlement, shrinkage, or expansion.
