Mr. Leitner also informed me that the business only generates 6 to 8 trips a day from the site. I explained to the City Council that this permit is not for mining; it is merely for a stockpiling and storage situation. However, they questioned where the gravel came from and also the condition of the adjacent lake. This particular issue has become more complicated than I thought it would, and, therefore, I would like to become involved with your review. It might be well that we make a visual inspection of the gravel storage as it exists. I would also like for you to contact Mr. Leitner and ask him where he receives his gravel and whether he knows anything about the condition of the lake adjacent to the gravel storage piles. Apparently, the City Council is concerned that the lake may become an attractive nuisance and may be suggesting some type of screening, signage or other cautionary measures adjacent to the gravel pit stockpiles.
