The 9 1/4" LVL is not deep enough to comply with the APA garage portal bracing detail (shown on detail ENG-6/D.2). A new 11 1/4" deep header must be installed per the following procedure (all work may be done from the interior of the garage so that all exterior fmishes may remain): 1. Remove all drywall from the inside face of the front garage wall. 2. Cut and remove cripple wall studs located above the existing door header. 3. Install a new (2) 1 3/4" x 11 1/4" LVL header d'uectly on top of the exisring header. The new header should be the same length as the existing header. The new header does not need to be nailed to the existing header. 4. Install new cripple wall studs from the top of the new header to the underside of the double top plate. 5. Install min. 3/8" wood structural sheathing to the entire interior face of the front garage wal] using the same nailing pattem as indicated on the attached detail. The sheathing shall be installed from the bottom of the bottom plate to the top of the top plate, and for the entire length of this wall. 6. Install drywall over the interior sheathing as needed.
