house is located a~proximatelv 13'-14° off the back of the corrected oad. which was built durinq the mass
qradinq of the Steeolechase develooment The oriainal qradina of the oad consist of aoproximatelv a 21' fill to
obtain waikout rade. The back of the ad was also oversized a roximate 22'. The oversize area of the
rear footin s of the ro osed house is on an area where soil correction did not occur. It is recommended that
this area be soil corrected and oversized 1 1 from bottom of orooosed footina orade for ~rooer support of the
rear footinq. Another ootion is to droo the footinqs at least 5" below the oroposed rear footina arade This
would allow the oversize area bevond the footinqs to be at an acceotable'/~ 1 slooe Also alternate foundation
svstems couid be desiqned and used as another ootion to soil correction Further information and
recommendations on this option can be orovided if necessary. If the orooosed house is constructed without

At your request we have perFormed a structural analysis of the
5 T. P A U L. M N "tall wall" assemblies at the Family Room and Foyer for the referenced
residence. Information regazding the framing at these locations was taken
s s i o s- i z ~ o from the construction documents prepared by Toll Architecture,
dated 3-14-06. The following are our comments and recommendations for
these walls:
1. 2x6 wall studs at 16" on center aze adequate structurally.
2. Some wa11 stud configurations at beam bearing conditions aze not
adequate. We have provided recommendations for framing at these
locations (see 1/A-7A, 2/A-7A and 3/A-7A attached).
3. Note that the stud framing shown on the current conshuction
documents and in our recommendations for the Family Room and
Foyer have a maximum deflection ratio of span/180 under wind
loading per ASCE Standard 7-98. This deflection does not cause a
concern regarding the structural performance of the framing, but we
cannot comment on the performance of the exterior/interior finishes.
It is the responsibility of the Architect and Owner to verify the effects
of the lateral movement on the proposed finishes with the finish
suppliers.
Miscellaneous Item
During our review of the stud wall framing we noted the roof design snow
load of 30 PSF in the chart on Sheet A-4.3. This load should be 38.5 PSF
per the Minnesota State Building Code.
