or Wall Board, clean all surfaces. If the walls have a finished paint coat verify that
the specific mortar purchased will adhere to it.
MORTAR: Interior premixed or bagged Thin Set Mortars will work on most surfaces.
For Unfinished Concrete normal Type N or S Mortar will work as well as Interior Thin Set Mortar
products.
APPLYING THE STONE: Install corners first keeping ahead of the horizontal stone installation.
Work from the ground up off of a level line. Check for level every few courses. Comb trowel
mortar on wall and press stone into place. Use cut pieces to start the next course for staggered
joints. Leave space at the floor for expansion.
ESTIMATING THE STONE QUANTITY: Calculate the amount of flat surface stone by multiplying
the height x the width of the surface area to be covered. Subtract the area taken up by windows
and doors. Measure the linear c: =t of corners.
EXTERIOR APPLICATION
TOOLS NEEDED: Wheel Barrow and Bucket, Hoe, Wide Mouth Nippers, Masonry hammer,
Pointer, Hand Held Whisk Broom, Sponge, Chalk Line, Plumb Bob, Wet Saw with Diamond Tip or
Carbide Blade, Safety Glasses.
SURFACE PREPARATION: Over Wood Sheathing, install 2 layers of 30 Ib Asphalt Impregnated
Felt Paper (Tar Paper, Water Barrier). Lap all Seams 4 inches. Flash at all openings and
penetrations. Apply 2.5 Ib per square foot Galvanized Wire Lath over the Water Barrier. The
cups on the lath should be face up to hold the mortar. Lap seams 1 "at bottom and 1/2" at sides,
minimum. Wrap corners
16" minimum. Secure with galvanized nails 16" on center horizontally and 6" on center vertically.
Penetrate through to wood studs 1 inch minimum, see Figure 1. As with the use of any veneer

apply. Over Concrete Masonry Units or Concrete, masonry must be unpainted or unfinished.
Veneer can be installed directly to these surfaces.
MOTAR: Use N or S type mortar. Mix with water. Not too wet not too dry. Apply 1/2" scratch
coat to the entire galvanized lath surface, see Figure 2. Rake the scratch coat with a mortar
comb, see Figure 3. Recommended Mortar mix is; 1 part type N or S Masonry Cement, 2.25
parts Sand, Water.

Flash around all openings or penetrations and apply starter flashing at first course if required.
Wet the back of the stone and wet the scratch coat surface with water. Butter the back of the
Stone with mortar and press into place. Clean stone surface from mortar as you work, see Figure
4.
