Dear Mayor Tom Egan and Members of the Eagan City Councll:
We are wriUng to inform you of our problem and request your help. The issue is the lack of a
proper outlet for storm sewer drainage on the north end of Widgeon Way. The problem has been
here for many years, but it wasn't until March of 1991, when our efforts at landscaping the
problem away continued to fail and the situation became dangerous to our chlldren, that we
began our deaHngs with city offlcials to resolve this.
The drainage problem lles between our properties of 3513 and 3517 Widgeon Way. No drainage
ouUet has ever been physically located, but must lie somewhere back up the hill between our
houses. As a result the water flows underground and pools at the back portion of our properties
before meandering a path to the nearby pond at the Forest Ridge apartment comples. The pooled
water on our properties continues to enlarge and is now flve feet wide with steep eroded sides.
Generally there is a two-to three-foot depth of water with an additional one to two feet of ]oose
mud underneath-a disaster waiting to happen.
Because of the drainage problem, we as property owners are:
1) Unable to feel secure about the safety of our children and neighboring children playing
on our properties.
2) Unable to landscape the back portions of our property to prevent additional erosion
from occuring.
We pay a fee on our city bill for storm sewer maintenance and are not seeing that money at work
in our present situaUon.
It is our understanding that Tom Colbert, Public Works Director, and Mike Ferch, AssLStant City
Engineer, wlll be choosing and prloritizing the varlous drainage projects in the month of May. Our
request is that the Widgeon Way storm sewer pro]ect be given prlority for completion in 1992.
We would like to address this issue for discussion at the May 20th City Council meeUng ff it is
feasible to be on the agenda. We wlli get in contact with you next week regazding this being on the
agenda.
