Dear Sir:
The intent of this letter is to express how extremely dissatisfied I am
with the assessed property values of homes in my neighborhood. I have
talked to you several times about this, and you claim you can do
nothing further. I do not agree, something must be done to equalize
these home values.
Back in the Fall of 1990, you came into our house for a re-assessment.
At that time you told my wife of all the problems you were having with
property values in our neighborhood, in particular on our side of the
street. Upon receiving our assessment for the following year, I was
shocked to see an increase of 23,000. This is on top of an increase
of 18,600 from the year before. So in two years your office increased
the value of our property a total of 41,600.
On the other hand, the home across the street from ours has gone down
every year. Prior to your adjustment of our value last year, there was
a difference of 49,100 in assessed value between my home and the home
across the street.
As a matter of fact, the majority of homes around me had a decrease in
value last year. Why is this happening? I know that all homes are
not built the same. But it is not possible for values to fluctuate
this much!
Last year when we went through all this and you agreed to lower our
assessed value, you told me the rest of the neighborhood would be
brought into line. This was the only reason I agreed to the revised
value, since I do not feel it was reduced to a level comparable to
the other properties in question. After reviewing the recent
appraisals for 1992, I am very disappointed to see nothing has been
done. As such, I feel I have no recourse but to appeal to the
County Board.
Since your office did not adjust the values on surrounding properties,
and you have said it will not be done for several years, why should we
continue to pay more than our fair share of taxes? If our house was
on the market at the same time as one of these homes across the
street, do you think someone would purchase our home just so they
could pay more in taxes?

Recently, a home was sold down the street from ours - on the other
side of the street. The sale price was $212,000. This home had
an assessed value last year of 150,700. How do you explain that?
Until you can adjust the neighborhood as a whole, we request our
value be lowered so it is EQUAL to the rest of the neighborhood.
